  • Glad I read the article. She wasn't fired for showing the book to hers students. She was fired for showing an unapproved book (which I then assume is not in the 8th grade curriculum) to her students. Teaching outside the curriculum is generally a big no no.

The question should be, why is that book not approved? That's a rhetorical question btw.

  • I joined Reddit in 2014. It was great back then. Open discussion (for the most part) was common place. You could disagree, but not everyone was a "fascist" or "liberal commie". Now insults, extremism, and radical attitudes are common place. No middle ground. "agree with all my viewpoints or you're the enemy". Lemmy doesn't look much different.

I've only been on this platform for maybe a week, and I've already blocked a dozen instances/communities. Not interested in extremism.

  • You expect too much from people. The majority of this platform, like most others, is comprised of emotionally immature children. They simply want to screech when they see something they don't like. Not approach the subject from a dispassionate viewpoint.

We both know what you said. But since you didn't publicly attack Amazon, they'll strawman it so it appears you're defending them.

  • These letters are wild. Why? Why get involved? He's been convicted. Just stay out of it. Now you simply look like you're defending a convicted rapist. I don't care if it was my best friend. I'm not going to write a letter for a rapist asking for the judge to go easy on him because he was always nice to me.

  • I'm assuming you read this elsewhere because your source does not have a comparrison number. So at present, there is nothing to indicate the number is rising. For all we know the number of people who agree with that type of violence could have been sitting at 16% for many years.

It isn't realistic to expect the number to be zero. There will always be radicals. Always. Even if we somehow create a perfect utopia, there will always be a handful of malcontents.

  • Thanks for the link. Some of those results were interesting. Question. Your link says that 84% disagree with the statement that "political violence against those I disagree with is acceptable". How have you concluded this is "rising"? What is your base of comparrison?

  • L take. I never stated I didn't read the material. An assumption on your part. I'm sure this incident took place, but because of the source, I'm sure it's riddled with left wing bias and twisted truths. Would you really take an article from fox news about Joe Biden at absolute face value? No, you wouldn't, and shouldn't.

  • Cool story. But I'm not a conservative, and I have no position. Yes, I'm sure it would be easier for you if I was. Then you could demonize me and take comfort in the fact that once again you've attacked your enemy.

I don't need to attack the source when it's a left wing rag. You know what I'm saying is correct. But you people are more concerned with winning, and taking a dig at your enemy then unbiased sources.
