I think people are holding SNW in such high regard because when it's compared to the rest of nu-trek, it's god tier. By itself, it's ok. I like it well enough. Plenty of stinkers episodes though. I still have hope for it.
When I would re-watch TNG I used to skip the first two seasons. They're pretty rough, but then I missed some of the good ones (measure of man, for example). Now I just skip the individual crappy ones.
It's my favorite series. Gun to my head, I'll take it over TNG, but barely. Diverse cast of characters, great stories. Even when the dominion war came along we still got plenty of monster of the week episodes. And of course, DS9 had something no others series can come close to: Garak.
I don't know if this is some weird, standard response you give when you're not sure how to respond to people, but nah, I'm good on the hug front.
I'll attempt to help you out: when people don't care about things you care about, it doesn't mean they're having a bad day. It simply means they don't care about the things you care about.
I wouldn't say anything. Not because I care about "muh poor people" but because I actively mind my own business. I would behave the same way if I saw someone steal from a small business as well.
People who buy new are wild to me. I can afford a new car, or I could just buy a car that's only a few years old with low mileage and save a ton of money. Seems like a no brainer to me.
