Hm that makes sense. Correct me if Iām wrong but I think I heard something about Salazar being āadmiredā by CHEGA, if thats the case it makes sense why they wouldnāt be interested n the military considering they were the ones (including the non-military communists) that overthrew the Salazar regime.
I think I remember seeing police officer protests in Portugal too, though I may be misremembering due to the language barrier (I just remember a few guys protesting Costa and I think they were cops).
Anyway Iām hoping for the best in Portugal ā¤ļø
Thatās sort of the vibe I was getting, that no one there wants to go to war, which makes sense. Based on what I know about Portuguese history going to war would be a veery bad move, but that knowledge has never stopped governments from doing it anyway. I canāt really understand the news very well and my Vavó doesn't understand certain political terms to translate, but does CHEGA say or imply anything? I know Iāve been worried about them for a while (far-right rise is an unfortunate common trend in the EU right now)ā¦
I see, so the Portuguese channel I have access to is standard. I only have the one so Iām glad Iām not missing out on anything (except the language barrier). I honestly couldnāt imagine Portugal succeeding in the military sect even if CHEGA wins so Iām glad I was right to think that. Unfortunate that thereās still a base is the AƧores, though.
Portugal makes me so sad, my family is from there and things couldāve been so good but alas⦠at least theyāre not itching for war like the other EU states⦠hopefully one day theyāll be free from NATO.
Yeah that makes sense. In my political science classes when Authoritarian governments are brought up the term āsupreme leaderā is used a lot so maybe Iām used to it. Then again it very well might be a language barrier with tonal contexts (how they say it). I canāt recall a time when a Western leader was ever referred to as āsupreme leaderāā¦
Iām not an EU comrade but I wanna comment to help boost as I am super curious about this topic. I especially want to hear from Portuguese comrades about whatās currently going on down there with regards to your question.
It would be cool if someone who knew Korean could confirm this for us, but in my opinion I donāt think itās that strange to call people ādearā in general. Didnāt FDR refer to Stalin with āmy dearā in his letters to him? I donāt find that weird. Also it could very well be a cultural thing too, some are just āwarmerā than others. I mean, this example isnāt the same, but I thought it was hilarious when Hakim called Putin āhabibi.ā Maybe itās just me, though, I like sweetness.
ālibsā to Miss Chaya Raichik and her ilk is people with coloured hair and anyone who is/supports LGBTQ+. Sheās a fucking nightmare of a person. Tucker Carlson had her one his show at one point and sheās soā¦.weird. She was also at the capital on January 6th so thereās that too. Elon Musk loves her.
Apparently it was only banned in the US, but not even because of the communism but because I guess there was a character that looked too much like Jesus Christ. I donāt really remember the episode (it wasnāt banned in Canada so I know I mustāve watched it) but did you enjoy it?
I have three midterms this week š„²
