  • This isn't a Hollywood movie where one passionate speech or oen big act will make everyone start with a slow clap leading to a thunderous applause and a big happy ending.

The problem is people believe the lies of republicans because they've been on that team for their whole lives. Some big gesture by a democratic party isn't going to change their minds because the republicans they've trusted their whole lives will just say "they just did that because they're evil commies that hate our great President Trump" and that'll be the end of it. Or more likely, they won't see it at all.

The only way America can change is for people to talk to their family members and get them out of this cult. Or if they're a casual Trump supporter, just talk about the things that are happening so they're better informed about what's going on. I know that involves having extremely awkward conversations, maybe involving being the adult in a covnersation with one's parents, which is never easy. But people need to hear about politics from someone they trust, and it's not going to be the democrats because people have been conditioned not to trust them.

People who voted for Trump will either not see anything Democrats say or not believe it if they do.

  • Fascism always is full of incompetent idiots, and yeah fascism is doomed to failure. The only question is how much damage the idiots can do before they fail.

  • Yeah but they're unreliable enough that someone will get caught regardless of whether they leaked anything.

  • The VP is just whoever the President picks. How many votes in the primary did JD Vance get?

  • I'm not sure what the point of an animated version would be... it would be like watching someone else play the game.

Don't think any move would be a good idea, Link doesn't really have a defined character because in the game you're Link. In any movie they'll need to define his character and it'll probably not match most people's expectations because everyone imagines Link's character to be different.

  • Are you suggesting that CAF fighting against US air power with our own air power has a chance of success?

The only interest the Trump regime has is monetary. Drones and missiles would inflict damage to the US, and if we keep their locations secret we'd have second strike capability. To achieve deterrence we'd only need to have the capability of inflicting enough damage to the US economy to cost the ruling oligarchy enough money to not be worthwhile to them.

The only immediate threat to Canada is the US right now. Europe won't have a fifth gen fighter for quite some time, we'd obviously get cut off from parts for F-35s if there were a conflict with the US. We'll need time recruit more people into the military to operate any plane and time to train them. We can start buying and producing drones in a much shorter time frame, which is critical given the pace Trump is betraying US allies.

  • He particularly loves the (supervised) self-driving feature, a form of stress relief on long commutes.

Is it just but doesn't that seem like a more stressful way to drive? I'd need to be at full attention so I could intervene at any time in case the car just starts doing something random. If I'm controlling the car I still need to pay attention, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about the car doing something random. It seems worse than nothing.

  • I wish that would happen, but he'll get a bail out from Trump.

    Your tax dollars at work!

  • Last time I was in the US I was in Hawaii in January 2009. Obama was being inaugurated and because of time zones I had to get up early to watch it. Figured it was worth getting up for because it was kinda historical. So I was in the common area of the hostel where the TV was and there were four other people in the room, two women sitting up front, close to the TV, excited about the Obama being inaugurated. And there was a dude at the back of the room cursing and swearing because the stock market was dropping.

When the speech was done, we got to talking. The two women excited about the inauguration were Canadian. The guy at the back of the room angry at Obama because of the stock market (he's literally being inaugurated, he hadn't done anything yet) was American.

Just felt like there was something wrong with that country then and just didn't feel like going back there again. Then Trump came along and he did nothing but reinforce that feeling. Had some small hope they might be able to get past their greed, ignorance, and racism when Biden got in, but that just didn't happen.

Haven't gone there in 16 years, and sure as hell not going there now.

  • In the roman context, a single centurion would be 1/100 of an army grouping.

But since we aren't living in roman times, one cent is 1/100 of a dollar.

Language is inconsistent in it's usage of cent, so at best the term centibillionaire is confusing. Hectobillionaire has only one possible meaning, so if we're inventing new words, probably should go with the option that's more precise.

  • Eh... a lot of people were protesting "Frankenfood" when the human genome project was going on.

People have always been idiots about science, just that the idiots are more organized and more vocal now.

  • Theoretically, yes... but the reality is that most people just let algorithms decide which junk they're going to watch.

  • Are you missing the part where Russia has to produce so many tanks because Ukrainians keep blowing them up?

Ukraine has also had a lot of success with Storm Shadow missiles. I'll let you google where those are made.

And of course Ukraine on it's own is now producing about 50% of the number of shells Russia produces. And there's a lot of drones that Ukraine is producing, which have proven to be very effective against the Russian military.

Russia will soon be broke from this war. It will take a decade for Russia to have the military strength to take on the EU and that can only begin when Russia ends it's war with Ukraine. In that time the EU can build a strong force to counter Russia.

The free world doesn't need the US, and it certainly doesn't need Russia.

  • It's completely relevant to your fallacious argument that other countries have social programs because the benevolent protection from the US.

The US could have the best healthcare systems in the world without reducing military spending. It only doesn't for the sake of the profit of insurance companies.

Your social programs don't suck because of your "benevoloent protection" (which has turned into a mafia protection racket now) but because American hyper-capitalist ideology is a barrier against being able to create effective social programs.

  • Yeah, you simply can't micromanage policies to effect another country to that granularity. It's why people should think carefully about who they elect to represent their country to the rest of the world. The US elected a criminal to represent them, so they have to expect they're going to feel some pain by their association with that criminal, whether they voted for him or not.

  • Trump himself signed the treaty that he now claims is unfair. The US doesn't have respect for honour, the law, or even reality anymore. They voted in a criminal to be their President, they have no respect for anything except money now.

There is no promise or treaty that will bring this to a conclusion forever.

  • Yeah, and property taxes result in more low density housing, as that increases the amount of tax revenue per person. High density housing means less revenue per person but the costs of services per person is still about the same. Sure theoretically, public transit is cheaper per person with high density housing, but realistically it isn't because nobody gives a shit about public transit in the suburbs.

Of course there's more costs overall because more suburbs mean governments are pressured to spend insane amounts of money on building and expanding highways. But it's usually a different level of government that builds the highways, so doesn't factor in the decisions to create more low density housing.

  • I think it can be attributed to Musk because he's the driving force behind pushing the "move fast and break things" mentality into rocket science. They haven't figured out why the last one blew up and they go ahead and launch another one which looks like it blew up for the same reasons.

That might work with non-critical software, but when you're talking about large rockets it's bound to get people killed eventually. At the very least they could've built a launch site for testing where the rockets aren't going over populated areas. But naw, build it in Texas and fire untested rockets over Caribbean countries, because there's not enough white people in those countries for Musk to give a shit.
