  • This question reminds me of Tim Minchin's observations of alternative medicine. By definition, alternative medicine has either not been proved to work, or has been proved not to work.

You know what we call alternative medicine that has been proved to work?

    Medicine.

  • An absolutely horrifying crime, and I'm not trying to make light of an awful tragedy, but some of these names sound like they were randomly generated from a Hollywood database that includes names like Scarlett Johansson, Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Radcliffe, Amanda Seyfried, etc.

  • Most of us in Europe don't eat the shells, actually.

Then again, who wouldn't want their eggs washed off with god knows what kind of chemicals that remove the natural protective membrane from the shells, so now you have to store the eggs in the fridge rather than just the shelf?

  • As an avid reader of Hungarian domestic politics news, I can confirm that the deluge is a feature, not a bug. Having read the hundred thousandth article about the prime minister's inner circle winning yet another tender, yet another government contract, monopoly over one more industry, most people get desensitised to the point that they zone out completely. What's the point if there is no other lane but the VIP lane?

  • some Remainer arguments were also of the British Exceptionalist kind. Specifically the whole idea of "We should stay in the EU and change it from the inside" also reeks of "we know best" and "the EU will change to accomodate us".

To be fair, while it comes across as snotty arrogance, the idea of negotiating with the other member states to steer the Union in your favour is a power and responsibility of every member state.

  • English exceptionalism is a disease that ails British society. People are shocked that the French etc. would apply reciprocal rules on Brits although in their minds it's perfectly legitimate to apply harsh immigration policies to people wanting to come to the UK. They genuinely don't understand it, and it's tragic in a way.

  • All the more important to remind the genociders that they were the genocidee in living memory.

This is one of the very last Holocaust Memorial Days with some actual survivors still present. Those who were 16 when they were liberated are 95 now. Not many who were younger then actually survived, and not many who were older then are still alive now.
