  • Because that’s my question? I’m interested in workers’ preferences, not which option is more productive. Like you say, both are better than 5 days a week on-site. But despite both equating to around the same amount of time in total for the same pay, in practice the two options are pretty different.

  • The article contains quite a big error too. Her two eldest children are over 18, have moved out and and are estranged from their mother. The eldest daughter actually helped the police, she posted on Instagram (or maybe TikTok) from outside the house when her mother was arrested. Initial reports said two of the children found in the house weren’t hers but I don’t think they’re the other lady’s either, she’s in her late 50 iirc.

  • So set your landing page to “subscribed” rather than “local” on whatever app you use. Or take it up with the admin or the lemmy.word community if it causes you a problem. I can’t see how it can put you out that much, or cause “overly tribal thinking” tbh.

  • I think that’s precisely what it intends to do. There’s interest-specific or country-specific instances that are meant to be your “home”. Lemmy.world is a bad example of it because it’s non-specific and sign ups were open for a long time.

  • Do grown adults accidentally fall out of windows though? Children and people fleeing a building on fire maybe. But the only example of an adult accidentally falling out of a window in non-suspicious circumstances I can think of is that guy who was trying to demonstrate the shatter-proof glass in his office building. Even that wasn’t really an accident, he did it on purpose.

  • No, I agree. I’m British so pretty anti gun. I just thought the guy I was replying to had a point and honestly I don’t think I’ve ever heard a reasonable point defending guns. But you’re right, it was just one recent-ish example that sprung to mind. It doesn’t change the fact that millions of Americans would be safer if you adopted gun laws like the UK, Oz or other similar countries.

  • Chris watts (? Not 100% on the name) killed a pregnant adult and two children with his bare hands I believe. I do believe having a gun to hand makes killing quicker and easier than another weapon, but ultimately once someone snaps to this extent, there’s little that will stop them.

  • We don’t have a thermostat. We have storage heaters and criminally insufficient insulation. I’d like to keep the flat about 21C (69F), a little lower at night. I can only afford to keep the flat above 17C (62F). Cost of living crisis sucks.
