  • "Why is everyone persecuting me for having a different opinion?!" they cried.

Check out their comment history for context. Such insightful tidbits as "every leftist should be in jail", "Go live in North Korea", and my favorite, "wut, are you an idiot?".

It's the same shit as Reddit because you're the same shit on both platforms.

  • I never heard of this but looked it up because of your comment. I like it!

  • This is super cool! The giant OCD nerd inside is going to go nuts while cataloging my entire home.

  • It's pretty dependent on driving conditions. If you do a lot of stop/start driving, they'll die sooner. 75% of my miles are freeway driving since I have a bitch of a commute, so my battery is still okay. I'll probably need to replace it in the next 40-50k miles

  • This is a long one. My shitty first roommate and now former friend. It was originally supposed to be three of us living together, with my then best friend, but she convinced me that best friend was too financially irresponsible. In retrospect, she just wanted the validation of me choosing her.

Unbeknownst to me, she was extremely emotionally unstable and became dependent on me to keep her level. Lots of crying and big fights over nothing significant. I put my foot down after a couple of months and told her I was moving out if she didn't get her shit together. The next day, she faked a suicide attempt with aspirin and vitamin C pills. I came home to a trail of them from the front door back to her bedroom. Not knowing at the time what she had taken, I called 911 and she was taken to the hospital. The hospital offered to set her up with psychiatric care but she declined.

I insisted she needed to get help but she refused, so I started discretely looking for a new place to live. Word got back to her I was doing so, so cue fake suicide attempt number two. I came home to a similar trail of pills, just to find her bedroom empty this time. Turns out she slammed a bottle of NyQuil and threw down a bunch of vitamin C. She became incredibly ill and called an ambulance before I got there.

I met her in the hospital while she was getting her stomach pumped. She was pretty messed up from the NyQuil and told me she tried to kill herself because I wasn't supportive enough. The literal quote was "I wouldn't have tried to do this if you were a better friend." When the doctor came around and offered to set her up with the local psychiatric hospital, I convinced her to accept. The NyQuil probably helped ease that through.

I moved out a few days later, while she was still institutionalized. I visited her in the hospital and gave her the news there, where she was being watched and presumably medicated. She lost her shit. After being released, she went on the war path, telling mutual friends I abandoned her after emotionally abusing her. We haven't talked since.

  • What worked for me was subscribing for a month, then cancelling. A couple months later, I got an offer for discounted PlexPass, including the lifetime subscription.

  • There's nothing nonsensical about their comment. Long winded? Absolutely. Do you not agree with it? Probably, but just because you don't like it doesn't make it nonsensical.

But even if it did make no sense, there's no excuse for personal attacks. That's just being shitty.

Don't shit this place up like Reddit. It's not welcome here.

  • As a straight man, I also liked Sucker Punch for reasons other than "hot girls in short skirts". It was a bit over the top, but I concur with every point you made.

  • I keep getting this too! It's the lamest gotcha.

Yes, I'm sorry my alt on Lemmy.world wasn't created... Before Lemmy. world existed?

  • Purely anecdotal, but I have two Facebook profiles. I'm extremely left leaning, especially in the fake one, yet both have their feeds blowing up with articles from conservative pages and groups about this "small town" song, Donald Trump, and Ron DeSantis. Oh, and Fox News articles too, up until I hid them.

I don't engage with any of those communities or anything even tangentially related to them. I have discussed all of those concepts in groups lately, though.

  • Yeah, there are some, but the really low tolerance for them here gives me hope they'll get weeded out sooner than later.

  • As someone around before the Reddit diaspora, I disagree. It was very left leaning before with a significant population of communists and socialists. The Fediverse dovetails perfectly with the communist dream: not doing things for profit, but instead for the common good.

Since the Reddit influx, I'd say it's actually less left leaning. Questions to the effect of "why so many goddamn commies" were not common.

  • There was more shitty behavior than normal for a bit, but it's really calming down again. The vibe here is much more relaxed and accepting.

  • A big part is because things like the Fediverse are aligned with the goal of Communists. Do away with the profit motive and constant rat race so we can spend time doing and making great things.

Imagine if Facebook wasn’t interested in ad revenue and data gathering but truly sought to keep people connected and to facilitate communication. No bullshit algorithm, no manipulation to keep people doom scrolling.
