  • Body builders are also burning mutiple times the average daily caloric load and specifically need extra protein. Average people should not eat like body builders or peofessional athletes. (Average people should also, like, walk around more. Maybe climb a bit. Use your body)

  • You're saying that we shouldn't have environmental regulations because all it accomplishes is polluting somewhere else? As if industry doesn't exist in places where they aren't allowed to dump all their waste in the nearest river?

  • Nobody knows the baby's name, that's not immortalized. (Azaria, by the way) And most people, as evidenced by this thread, don't know anything about the actual story. So it's wet blankets like me bringing awareness.

  • I said "Florida is looking sketch lately", which anybody paying attention to DeSantis should recognize, and I stand by that most US states outside of cities and parks are largly undifferentiated swaths of farm and suburb with no unique reason to pick one over another. Neither is a joke, nor are they about whole groups of people.

You aren't joking about the situation, you're parroting a joke written after Lindy was pardoned. It's a tired Australian go-to reference like "throw a shrimp on the barbie" but instead of just being inaccurate and a stereotype it's also rooted in a specific and very personal tragedy.

  • If I'm honest, your point is being let down by your grammar.

The state polices on a societal scale to the benefit of the public all the time. Environmental and safety regulations on businesses is one of the most obvious and successful. We can see historically and currently that, without the credible threat of legal consquence, people will just leave their trash wherever or over-harvest fish and game or accidentally set fire to a forest. Like, it happens anyway all the time but on a smaller scale.

Late-capitalism mostly describes how everything is commodified and owned by a handful of multinational megacorps. It's got nothing to do with the specifics of Bronze Age mercantilism, nor much to do with the definition of government nor heirarchal systems within society. Regulatory capture is a big problem but that's not unique to the current system. Without the current governments these corporations would just be cyberpunk Corporate States at best or warlords at worst.

Anarchist communism, in my opinion, doesn't scale well beyond the neighborhood and is rubbish at the kinds of efficiencies needed to sustain billions of people.

  • And a lot of us who were around in the 90s also used "gay" as a casual pejorative without really understanding it. It wasn't right then and it's not right now and most of us grew up and realized that.

The key is thinking, "dang, that's messed up actually" and changing. Not "it's just a joke, geez people are so sensitive."

  • Nobody has been thrown in jail and dragged through a media circus over a polar bear mauling. Lindy and Michael Chamberlain had their lives ruined after a traumatic loss. It's not the same.
