Yeah, YouTube has issues (dislike removal, demonetization policies, etc) but premium is not as bad as people treat it.

I would actually be even more bullish on it if premium disregarded any demonetization of videos (edit: in terms of paying creators for the view)

Edit: also I would wish any data collected from premium users is limited to improving the user experience and not for improving ads

I'm not talking about them taking loss in earlier years (that aside, even if they tried to run it for free in the current year the number of users is vastly different)

Video streaming is expensive in general, especially when it's not a fixed set of videos (like other streaming services)

Problem with private schools is most likely the training investment required. They can't as easily replace IT team and/or CS teachers with those who can handle Linux

I don't, running YouTube is expensive, and Google became a trillion dollar company mainly from ad revenue, it has to be making bank for them to not have killed YouTube

I don't understand the pro privacy argument as well as I would like to, and feel like if I were to lose mental faculties which works like an intuition in regards to why this can be bad I might end up on the opposite side.

I am writing this comment to invite explanations which can work on even the most naive person to someone with a higher level of understanding. Also because usually these reasons are given to bad faith actors or in a heated argument, so they don't get to be as well put together (or at least that's been my experience and why I feel I don't understand it as well as should by now)

That was my first thought too, but then I thought how much of a mind fuck it would be to get similar products and have people wonder how real your pics are

Storage isn't the only cost, or even the major cost, it's bandwidth to serve them

I don't see a better way for YouTube to be managed in the current environment, but I do agree it's not the best possible way; it's just the ideal way is limited to an ideal world, which we don't have.
