  • Any model that comes with an HP+ free trial subscription will stop working after the trial ends. You can then go out and buy “non instant ink” cartridges for a high price or you can sign up for their monthly subscription and get new ink and paper in the mail whenever it runs low. It’s a scummy aggressive marketing tactic.

  • No word on platform availability but I’m nearly certain Linux will be one of the platforms.

  • It depends on the model, some actually require some level of subscription to even function.

  • I think it’s a you problem to be bothered by it tbh. Grow up?

  • There have always been for all brands, but they are usually part of a leasing contract for businesses. The new thing is that HP is trying to trick consumers into similar contracts even though most have no need for it.

  • If the other user doesn't want to provide sources, I won't really be convinced. That's me giving them a chance to back up what they were saying, which someone else did. You can stop policing what people say on here now, thanks.

  • But half of their modern printers require a monthly paid subscription to even function. They need to stop doing that.

  • He pled guilty and the video is pretty clear. This is misinformation at this point. Censuring him after he was already fined, though, is pretty extreme.

  • Of course! Tech companies are just as evil as any other company.

  • The person I was responding to was saying “we have studies stating that…” but they failed to link the studies. That’s not my fucking problem.

  • Ah yes, BPA, which I had already addressed.

For example, bisphenol A (BPA), a plasticizer used for the synthesis of phenol resins, polyacrylates, polyesters, epoxy resins, and polycarbonate plastics, is used for the production of drink and food packaging, and in case of high temperature exposure or pH variation (e.g., washing in washing machines, food heating into the microwave, contact with acid foods) leaches into wastewater, contaminates foods and beverages, thus representing both ecotoxicological and health risks

Other than BPA, there is still not much evidence regarding negative health effects. BPA is in the process of being banned even in many US states, and many companies have already moved away from it because of these health effects. Other plastics seem not to have the same effect.

  • It’s not gore or anything. It’s just extremely snarky.

  • I don’t think you understand that you’re asking me to prove that something does not exist. You can’t prove that. There has not yet been enough study to prove that it does have a negative effect, aside from BPA which is already being regulated.

  • Go fuck yourself

  • You’re asking me to prove a negative. Why don’t you post your sources?

  • Could you link those studies then?

  • We don't have enough data to know whether plastic is actually harmful to humans long-term. A better comparison would be lead paint or leaded gasoline.

  • Yes that is my laptop on the right there

  • I doubt they’re pals. Their relationship seems to be very adversarial. Everyone hates musk and he sees them as a threat. Bezos is a neoliberal. Musk is a fascist. There is a difference, at least as far as optics are concerned.
