  • I’m ashamed it took us this long

  • Or guardian animals. And predation insurance /compensation for your livestock.

  • What was it? This list really piques my curiosity but I know it’s better not to look….

  • A good pair of tongs is gamechanger. But in a perfect world I would be able to use a dino head grabber

  • I forget where I found it but there was a long article about her backstory, with interviews from her old colleagues at NBCU, where they made it very clear one of her own major personal goals was to be a CEO of some company, and in general she just thirsts after power and status. In addition she was painted as very spicy/short fused with her employees.

  • I think one factor is probably “advances” in food science. Look how many ingredients go into an average fast food bun, for example.. we have so many hyper-processed foods made with not just hella preservatives, but instead of wheat flour and butter it’s like wheat and corn starch, gluten, various vegetable proteins and several different oils, etc all recombined in a rather industrial way. It’s cheaper, and it’s sometimes specifically engineered to appeal to our palates, but it’s been taken too far imo. This is not just an issue in fast food by any means.

  • Interesting. Do you know if they would be masquerading as a woman to push their weird agenda, or just to troll? It is definitely interesting when people are crazy and talented like that, though in this case the talent is more interesting for sure… their grandstanding and transphobic takes aren’t really an original or unique brand of crazy, pretty basic. I would probably have to dig deeper to see the depths of the weirdness but my brain only has so much tolerance for consuming that kind of bs.

  • Too bad she’s also a TERF apparently (read the hogwarts legacy NFO, dang lol)

  • It would be cool to be able to just combine the content at the user level. You could have all the gaming communities you like under a custom gaming label, with a filter that checks for duplicate titles or links (wouldn’t be perfect but decent) and imports in the comments from duplicate threads (with some subheadings or something to distinguish their origin)

  • Lol I saw that yesterday on a google search and literally thought it must be some kind of custom lemmy instance that mocked the UI and URL, too funny

  • It’s just a very blurry photo but if it’s intended to be blurry for artistic reasons, the window smudges take away from that quite a bit imo

  • I think you may need glasses pal

  • If a homeless person attacks a homeless person, they are still attacking someone society has failed. My interpretation of the comment is that it is more related to the victim than the perpetrator, like shooting elderly people in a nursing home or children or otherwise less privileged people - you’re victimizing someone who doesn’t have the same opportunity to protect or defend themselves or even choose where they reside. This is not to say that they are pitiable or anything like that, but they are disenfranchised.

  • Oh I see, in my app your comment shows up as a top level comment not a direct reply to someone. But that explanation makes sense !

  • I really don’t like doing pickup for most trips because I care about the quality and ripeness of my produce and also purposefully select the furthest away expiry dates for certain things I go through slowly, it becomes a lot to ask someone else to do if there are 20 comment lines for these little details, but if I don’t it just results in wasted food and money :/

  • Why don’t you want to engage in public? Just curious, I don’t have any contentious viewpoint to express

Nothing concrete of course, because it’s very difficult to study at a stage where we cannot communicate or directly observe the emotional states of animals, nor ethically design a study where one attempts to cause animals enough distress to engage in self harm or bring about their deaths (and simultaneously prove that was their intent).

It’s in no way a concluded topic, but it doesn’t make sense to reject outright either - and I definitely think there is enough evidence around for animals understanding of their peers mortality, why start with the assumption that they have an inability to recognize their own mortality in the first place? It’s good to be skeptical, but unproven anthropomorphism is just as illogical as the opposite assumption.
