  • When a quarter of the most qualified engineers to make the stuff and a lot of the cheap manual labor are immigrants and you do a campaign against immigrants so they leave, maybe you don't have enough people left to to create local production.

  • That was another study. In that, they let people play Monopoly but gave one player an obvious advantage. Double money when passing start, that kind of thing. Of course they won, but when asked why they won they would invariable boast how much better they were than the rest and not mention their advantage. The same thing happens with getting lucky in dot com boom or born wealthy and they see it as just being better.

  • Now the EU should leak a report that says without USA's guaranteed peace and NATO breaking up, chances for Russia to attack the EU are pretty much 100%, so better to tariff the USA to astronomical levels, use that money to fund the EU military and attack now before Russia has a chance to rebuild.

  • It's going to get worse. I suspect that this'll end with LLM taking the part of a production programs. Juniors just feeding it scenarios to follow, hook the thing up to a database and web page and let it run. It'll gobble power like there's no tomorrow and is just a nightmare to maintain, but goes live in a quarter if the time so every manager goes with that.

  • At best it´s throwing things at the wall and if nobody responds with threats of bodily harm to the one flinging things they go forward. More likely it´s a bunch of hotheads that can´t agree on anything so do whatever they want.

  • they’re engineering a coup with code and cash.

No, they're executing their coup right now. Musk having access. Civil servants already being laid off. The groundworks are being laid, using Project 2025 as a manual. We should see the first corporations taking over some of the government's functions soon enough.

  • That is Project 2025. Kill federal agencies and replace with privatize those functions. Reduce justice until it's just the enforcement arm of the administration. Kill everything to do with climate or equality in any form. Cut taxes.

In the end, replacing non profit bureaucracy with for profit monopolies is asking to be beaten to death with fees and legalized bribery making everything more expensive.

  • And to add what the others said, things are getting more expensive. Raw material prices keep going up, price of energy is rising but wages aren't. Growth of the western countries went way down but the elite still insist on their usual cut even if they means taking a cut from the general population to make up the difference.

Then comes climate change making insurances more expensive or impossible, what makes things more difficult for housing. After that the climate also messes with food production. Not to mention how modern industrial animal husbandry is a pandemic generator what's going to make it worse.

  • No, it was a bit crappy before, then got pretty good, but then went to shit.

Even the solitaire game in Windows now needs an Xbox account, shows an ad before you can play, nags you for s subscription to make ads go away and keeps sending notifications for challenges.
