  • It results in a lot of performance theater. If being at your desk, key presses, mouse clicks and eye movements are the most important then you can expect a lot of long winded lists, reports and mails. There'll be people doing thousands of things manually instead of thinking about it and automate things. So much productivity measured and nothing gets done.

  • Worker productivity is like holding sand. It you grab it and squeeze it hard, it just runs through your fingers and falls to the ground. But if you cup your hands and support it carefully you can hold on to much larger amounts of it.

  • USA forms an empire and each empire follows roughly the same path. There always comes a time when greed gets too much and the whole system starts to rot from the inside out. Who exactly the greedy bastards are that do the deed is up to change but they're always there. It's a classic.

  • Really speed running the "Why Nations Fail" checklist. Kill institutions, inclusivity, rule of law, pushing extractive industries. Educational and healthcare is already half death but still needs to get the coup de grâce.

  • Yes, in the new "might is right" world Trump is pushing for, it's better to start pushing back or get pushed over. In his "make a deal" world view, better to say to ban everything outright in two weeks. In his typical fashion, some compromises might appears the next day. Losing a few hundred million customers and large amounts of influence will sting him and his supporters.

  • Because rich folks don't want to attribute their fortune to being born rich, to being lucky by being in the right place at the right time, or shady dealings. It'll always convince themselves it's because they're so hard working, such a genius, such great instincts for business... It doesn't help that they'll attract a bunch of yesmen and society at large respects money so much. From there on, they'll Dunning–Kruger in spectaculair fashion over anything that strikes their fancy.

The real smart ones know this can happen and make sure to guard themselves against this. They other ones fire anybody with a different opinion until their luck runs out.
