  • Depends on if you shop around for oil. I can usually get mobile one high mileage synthetic for about $5/qt at Walmart and buy filters at napa when they have a deal on buying multiple qty.

So $40ish for full synthetic high mileage oil change.

  • "lifetime" fluid doesn't mean what you think it does. It means the lifetime of the transmission, which will fail if you don't change the fluid at some point.

Any time a manufacturer has said that it has turned out to be b.s. and someone figures out that some off the shelf fluid works better than the stuff they put in at the factory.

  • It's nothing new. Have you ever opened up a laser disc player or discman from 1989? Extremely intracate parts Ave mechanisms that are nearly impossible to work with.

Even a basic VCR or DVD drive has a ton of small moving parts which are difficult or impossible to fix and designed to break early and often.

  • This is how my buddy blew the engine on his insight. It was burning oil so long that it melted the spark plugs. He could have had it fixed for free but he didn't know about it until that extension had ended.

I actually don't know what was wrong with it because he never let me take a look for him. I offered to have an engine delivered to my house and me and another friend could have slapped a used engine in.

He was hellbent on buying a new car so he traded it in.

  • The problem I've always had with mobo caps is the high heat solder they used. You either need to use an extremely high wattage heat source or you need to get a lower temp solder to bond to the existing solder so that you can melt it with a regular iron.

  • I swapped cables and etc. It turned out to be a bios setting for the drive. I think the bad battery just caused the settings to get wiped.

Why it was intermittent like that makes no sense though, but it's good after I figured out how to enable that drive number.
