  • I've got easy mode: On-call woke me up. We're five techies and equity holders with one employee, an intern. We pushed a few buttons to effect plan B and enable plan C, and sent a medium priority notification by chat.

Then, we sent the intern to the office to watch the meters. If she fucks up it's not a problem until about Tuesday. So, we're waiting to see if she automates the task, uses the existing routing template to ensure she's notified of wonkiness if she leaves the office, and asks permission. She's recreating the wheel and can then compare to our work. I thought I'd give her a couple hours before checking in.

  • I entirely agree with you. After learning about the propaganda of Goebbels and how the concepts were applied to US mass media, the propaganda ingrained in everything is overwhelming.

Saturation is a core tactic, now empowered by communications technology. I've had to filter my intake heavily: no Facebook, no reddit, limited Lemmy, no video news, filter articles based on writing complexity, etc.

Seems we both favor trusting others. If I say Engineering of Consent and Manufacturing of Consent are core texts on propaganda then some will read. If I say Hamilton is a genius work of art then some will watch. Propaganda wears off over time. But, wisdom is forever.

  • EDIT: There's no tier 1 failure. My shits just fucked.

I don't have easy access to very much high level, non-public network data and information outside my organization. But, based on what I can see, it sure looks like at least one piece of the US fiber backbone has gone kaput.

I decided our small organization would react as if this were true. But, we really don't know and haven't had time to figure it out, yet.

The worst case scenario for regular people is that their shift gets cut today, possibly also tomorrow, because their assigned computer is fucked.

  • Are they completely repressed or just depraved?

Neither. They're fascists with a cult that lacks empathy.

ban people from wearing clothes and putting on makeup

They'll remove the right from the vulnerable group.

Will this extend to the performing arts?

Then, they'll leverage the precedent to remove the right from everyone.

Arts that produce material goods can be best commodified. Arts as a service may inspire and educate or be leveraged as propaganda, which can be very bad for long term economic growth. (corrective edits)

edit: I'm a straight cis male. I've been to a few drag shows. My perceptions were that sex was ingrained into the performance no more or less than on TV, in no more or less crude way. Many of the jokes required sympathy, empathy, or a little thinking. Those are characters on stage, exaggerations of personality often found in comedy.

A drag show is the performing arts. The fact that it's not for everyone is a clear indicator that it should be defended.

  • But, then the nations leading the committee wouldn't have advantages in materials science and analysis of fluid dynamics. The Olympics are aren't about the spirit of human competition. It's about which nation is better by count of medals.

  • I hope the threat of proletariat violence prevails as it usually does in history. Revolution is always a bloody mess.

I didn't miss the point. I choose non-violent change over a bloody mess. Where we seem to differ is that, as a last resort, I choose a bloody mess over the status quo.

The system has had centuries to right its wrongs. Most of us have no hope of a life of dignity. We're already dead. We'll set the timetable for our freedom. Or, we won't. Things will go on as they are. And, the next generation will shoot their shot.

I choose to believe now is our time.

And yes, beaten by a cop. Happens all the time. Some of them even make the news.

  • We already built more than enough houses. The problem is that bank and landlords profits contribute to economic growth, the mandate of capitalism. Housing the homeless would contribute far more to economic growth. But, it'd take more than four years to see the results.

So no. We can't house them. The need to suffer because otherwise capitalism is threatened.

  • Reinforcing a strike's picket line is "political violence"?

You need history. Lots of history.

You need guns. Not idiots with guns like the cult. Wise and disciplined people of principle who agree they'd rather not use them. We don't even need to fire a round. Call the bluff: "Kill us, then."

They won't. The people will come when we call. Or, it'll end like Les Mis. Either way it'll be done with dignity.

  • Well, I'm sorta tired of being murdered, moderates faking outrage, then they rationalize trying to remove the best tool I've got to defend my family from those murdering me.

I'm sure you can understand why I'll respond to your shallow judgement of smugness with a curt, Go fuck yourself, moderate. I'll set the timetable for my freedom. You can take credit as always once we do all the work.
