  • Yup. After watching the debate I began predicting another Ford majority and another record-low voter turnout. Glad I was wrong about the latter.

I've always voted NDP, but this was the first time in twenty years of voting that I didn't feel great about it.

  • My Polish father in law makes it with bacon and it is by far the best fermented food I've ever enjoyed. I'll see if I can get the recipe.

  • His family has a lot of Canadian ties. His mother is Canadian and his grandfather moved to South Africa from Canada because we weren't apartheid enough.

  • Republicans have spent my entire life defending the second amendment under the guise that it is the only way to stop a tyrannical government. Not sure why, but I feel like this is should be relevant to Americans these days.

  • What about Canada? We barely ship any drugs or contraband south and yet 90% of the guns used in violent crime here come from the USA. Most of them come from states that aren't even near the border. More Canadians have been killed by American arms than Americans could ever be killed by Canadian drugs. The problem is the USA wants to act like some paragon of justice while also encouraging instability in their neighbours and refusing to admit their addiction to guns is a cancer to all of civilized society.

  • We are very much on Trek. For reference, check out season 3 episodes 11 and 12 of Deep Space Nine. These episodes take place on Earth in 2024, roughly six months ago. It was always clearly laid out in Trek that their path to utopia was paved with war and hardship.

Well that and the fact that our first contact in Trek is with a peaceful but vastly superior race. We had everything to gain by creating an alliance and could have easily been wiped out by Klingons or Romulans if we didn't.

  • How about I trade you two dozen eggs for those bills? Eggs are only worth a few dollars a dozen north of the border. We'd share more, but your leader is threatening our future.

  • Anyone who says shit like this while ignoring the massive amount of illegal guns smuggled into Canada from the USA killing Canadians is a goddamn traitor. 90% of the handguns recovered from violent crime here originated in the USA. This has always been a huge problem for us. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68841961

  • He's the premier of Ontario, our most populated province. Basically our version of a governor by USA standards. He also has more in common with Trump than not. There are a few political factors here that will make it very hard for him to win an election when the next one was scheduled, so he's pulled a snap election early as a desperate attempt to stay in power. Expect to see more of his dumb ass until we vote at the end of the month, longer if this tariff bullshit continues.

  • Torontonian here. It might be worth asking, but I can tell you right now they'd laugh at you. Their boomer voting base doesn't want to bother and they have big federal problems to worry about. Heck look at Scotland right now, some people suggested keeping cats out of conservation areas to protect bird species and everyone is freaking out. Despite being great for the environment, outdoor cat bans are not popular with voters.

You may have more luck with your local councilor. Pet issues tend to be handled at the municipal level. Even your MPP would be a much better choice, assuming they aren't conservative. However if you really want the situation fixed anytime soon, you'll need to either get help from a charity like the Humane Society or take care of it all yourself.

  • Dorothy rose columbine. Beautifully built for butterflies and hummingbirds.

  • I literally just spent an extra hour doing my weekly grocery order to make damn sure not a single item was sourced or made by anything USA. Now that I've gone through that effort, I won't be going back. I have no reason to believe Trump won't change his mind on a whim like usual anyways. If we all do our part in this way, even the rich will feel some consequences from supporting this madman.

  • Yes. I live on one of the major roads he's removing the bike lane from and the entire neighbourhood is pissed. He's always looking for creative ways to punish Toronto because we don't vote for him.

He's only in power because ignorant and biased media like the article above convinced suburbanites to vote for him. His support in the cities and rural Canada is dismal but he keeps winning by offering things he can't actually provide like one dollar beers and cheap gas.

  • This headline is very misleading. Ford already has a majority government allowing him to do whatever he wants and plenty of time left in his term. This election is about getting ahead of the federal election. Traditionally Ontario likes to vote in premieres that belong to the party opposite of whomever is running the country federally. Right now the federal conservatives lead the polls and a we know a federal election is coming before the end of the year. Doug Ford knows he needs to have an election ahead of that or his chances of remaining in power are slim. Tariffs are just a convenient boogeyman he's using to try and stay in power longer. He even made sure to send everyone a 200 bucks and timed it so people got it shortly before he announced this election.

Before he started this "Canada is not for sale" bullshit, his slogan for our province was "Ontario, open for business". Please don't fall for it. Ford's demolition of our health care has directly harmed several people close to me and his anti-worker bill 124 took thousands out of my pocket despite it being declared unconstitutional.

  • I've been asking people this a lot lately just to be sure there's no fascists in my orbit. Thankfully everyone has answered Nazis so far.

  • I find these articles pretty funny and out of touch with every human being I know. I saw the media shit on the Switch 2, but it was exactly what I expected so I asked all my friends with a switch how they felt. Every single one plans on buying the new one at or near release. Many will be buying two so they can play with spouses or their kids. The tally for purchases in my small middle-aged friend group alone is over 50. Nintendo releases too many amazing exclusive games for us to ignore. I know I can turn to emulation, but I prefer to do that for older games that already made their profit so I can support the devs that make me happy.

  • I don't recall saying anything about even attempting to change his behaviour, anyone with half a brain knows that's a lost cause. The point is being a thorn in his side. He clearly cares or he wouldn't invest the time and money into these games.
