  • Some people really want lemmy, or the fediverse for that matter, to be reddit. And that’s not a bad thing of its own. But maybe we can let it be what it wants to be.

Personally, I'm fine with Lemmy not completely replacing Reddit, but rather just being a viable alternative for those of us who are tired of Reddit. I've only been using Lemmy for a handful of days and I'm already quite happy with it as it is.

  • It's fine to not like someone. There's plenty of people in the world that I'm not a huge fan of. But I'd never advocate for or celebrate their deaths.

I'm also struggling to understand what her being "fully vaxxed" has to do with lung cancer... 🤦🏻

Anyway, rest in peace Susan Wojcicki.

  • As someone who washes his knives in the dishwasher (please, don't hurt me), I think you've just inspired me to take better care of my knives. Think I might stop putting them in the dishwasher and hand wash them instead and get at least some kind of basic knife sharpening system. I've got a couple of knives that could use the little bit of extra care so I'm not struggling every time I need to use them.

  • Remove content they don’t like while pushing content in my face that I don’t want to see.

Between the constant ads and politically divisive subreddit recommendations that plague my Reddit experience, Lemmy feels like a breath of fresh air. I actually see the stuff I want to see, and am not having garbage pushed onto me.

  • I did install all the dependencies. My guess is that I probably made a mistake somewhere while installing them. Regardless, I wasn't able to get it working, and I didn't have enough time to really mess with it further.

I might try it again from scratch this weekend if I have time. Maybe try the graphics quality trick if I can't get Buffout to work, so thank you for that suggestion.

  • It's definitely different if you're getting paid for it. I plan to get into I.T. within the next year or two if I can, so I'm sure I'll have to get familiar with Windows 11.

I mean, technically I do use Windows 11 daily at work. Gotta be able to order stuff, send emails, and manage my time card. All that is done on a Windows 11 PC. But nobody is paying me to put it on my home PC, so I'm not going to.

  • I played a little bit of it, and it definitely does seem like a pretty impressive mod. However, even with Buffout installed, I kept crashing at the train. I'm hoping to revisit it once they've managed to put out a patch addressing some of the technical issues.
