  • I never said anything about Elon being directly responsible for this, nor did anyone else within the replies to the conspiracy theory comment that I was referring to. The fact of the matter is that conspiracy theorists touted Elon's acquisition of Twitter as being the return of free speech, but immediately after the death of Putin's largest opposition figure, who's wife said that she would carry his torch, she's removed from the platform. Whether due to Elon or anyone else, Twitter is not a platform of free speech, and that should outrage anyone, whether they Like Elon or not, and whether they agree with Navalny and his wife or not.

  • Believe me, it got sadder and sadder watching it happen in person, too.

  • Conspiracy theorists are people who believe wild, baseless information, whose only sources are other people who believe wild, baseless information. My mom thinks that the US is owned by some guy in Montana because she saw a youtube video that said so. She believes that any time someone spells her name in all caps they're literally trying to enslave her. She believes that Donald Trump is literally the second coming of Jesus Christ, and that Elon Musk is one of his new disciples because he allowed him back onto Twitter. She believes that sitting in a chair that vibrates at a specific frequency is more likely to cure her stage 4 breast cancer than an oncologist. My mom is a conspiracy theorist, and she'll be dead soon from cancer that she found while it was still easily treatable with surgery, but decided then that oregano oil would be a more effective treatment.

  • If you've got cleaned, cooked seafood that smells like fish shit, you're at a shitty restaurant. My only takeaway from this is that we should really see if we can make terrestrial insects taste as delicious as we make aquatic insects taste.

  • It should be pointed out that Israel is clearly NOT doing this in response to Oct 7th. Hamas was clearly responsible for Oct 7th, and Israel is clearly not attempting to retaliate against Hamas; bombing a building on the off chance that your enemy is within it isn't a counterattack, it's just terrorism, and repeating that action on the scale that Israel is repeating it is not a war, it's genocide.

  • The issue is that we're not in this situation accidentally. Every 4 years we say "I know it sucks, but for now we just have to vote out the lesser evil, then we can focus on change" then go 4 more years without making any changes. We'll always just be voting for the lesser of 2 evils, whether for this election or the 2064 election. Everyone with any real say in the government loves how things are working out right now, and has no intention to allow us to truly vote for anyone other than 2 candidates that have been vetted by the oil companies.

  • It's not meant to make them look like the good guy, it's meant to make them look like the guy who's willing to "do what it takes to end the woke agenda." The way you get a bunch of people to support evil isn't by convincing them it's good, but by convincing them it's necessary.

  • There's no reason to try any harder than this. Most people who will see this tweet won't look at the handle or the replies - they're read the tweet, then move on. And if they see enough of these tweets, they may just internalize the notion that unions aren't worth it. It's better for Amazon to make more tweets than it is for them to make better tweets. And it's not like they're going to see any repercussions for trying to maliciously influence their employees.

  • You can never be sure on the Internet. Plus, I know there are people who think like this; my mom did something similar to my dad when I was a kid. When they were first dating she told him she didn't want to be tied down, a sentiment that he thought was long over by the time they got married. Much to his surprise, she was angry that he wasn't more accepting when he caught her cheating. Decades later, she still claims that she was entirely justified, and that my dad is an asshole for getting angry at her.

  • I like to focus on my shoulders. If I notice they're scrunched, I lower them, and the rest of my body tends to follow suit.

  • I'd be worried that I couldn't change back. I'd choose flight, since none of the other dragon stuff feels too useful besides just being strong.

  • My wife recently stopped being a teacher, and it was because her school lost more and more teachers due to low pay, which caused them to put more and more students into her classroom at a time. That, combined with the low pay, caused her to leave, which then made things harder for the remaining teachers who didn't leave.

It's a downward spiral that could just as easily become an upward spiral if we just gave them more money; more money gives current teachers an incentive to stay, and gives new teachers an incentive to come in, allowing for smaller class sizes and further removing stressors. Sure, there's probably more we could do, but if we haven't even been able to take step 1, talking about steps 2+ seems hasty.

  • Well, with more teachers they could afford to give individual students the help they need, rather than shoving them all into a class despite being at different levels.

  • Yeah, at first I thought they were saying it evened out considering most people's careers are longer than an NFL player's, but even just 1 year as an NFL player nets more money than I'll ever earn in my life. Several lose it all, but that's from spending it on hookers and blow, not because they're forced to live paycheck to paycheck.

  • Don't worry, I was also confused as to why she was wearing a towel in a high-tech laser science lab.

  • You're dancing around the basis of my argument. They're not counterattacking Hamas, they're killing Palestinians. It's like if you punched me in the face so I killed your innocent grandma and called it justice.

  • Israel is attacking now because 10/7 gives them the excuse. Again, they're not attacking the people responsible for 10/7, they're attacking everyone in that area, and hoping maybe they got one.

  • Hamas is evil, yes, but ultimately Israel isn't attacking Hamas. It's attacking Palestinians indiscriminately and hoping afterward that some of them might've been associated with Hamas. People aren't calling for a ceasefire because they like Hamas, they're calling for it because Hamas has nothing to do with Israel's attack on Palestine besides being a convenient scapegoat.

  • Privacy is important, and transparency is important. It's public knowledge for a reason, and to try to take legal action against the people who use it is worse than just "being a dick."

  • Everybody's got a thing, and they're usually happy to talk about it to someone who's genuinely interested. Definitely helpful if you're looking into that exact thing.
