  • There's so much lol. I used to be a security software engineer. But people never fucking listen and will constantly fight you so I just gave up and went back to just software engineering.

At my job before last I told them we needed to enforce HTTPS and they said, but what if someone can't use HTTPS for some reason?

This was an app that held tons of protected health information. I jumped ship as soon as I found another job.

  • Cyber security stuff, but like the nitty gritty details and technical stuff. It's something I'm really passionate about, but if anyone brings up something and I start going into details, their eyes glaze over.

I guess most people like the headline, tldr version only. Lol

  • My best friend knows that I collect watches and that Alice in wonderland is one of my favorite fictional universes. She commissioned a silver pocket watch with the white rabbit on the front which also serves as an inside joke between us. It's the most thoughtful gift I've ever received and I love it.

  • It's really not right though. If you have a lot of anxiety and try to just get over it this way, it could lead to a negative experience and reinforce the anxiety. The proper response is seek professional help.

  • You don't have to drink to go to a trivia night in most places and it is a good place to meet people. That's how I met one of my good friends and we play trivia together every week and hang out other times related to music cuz we're both musicians

  • My experience is from years ago, but the vetting process seemed about the same for both when I was working on an app. The initial publish process takes forever. The update process through Apple was much simpler and that used to be a successful attack vector.

Since you rarely get feedback from updates, it's hard to say if Google was as vulnerable, but I've heard that the update scheme is still a thing. Publish a legit app then push malicious updates.

  • Yeah I'm still a patron depending on what they do going forward. I don't think he should get the benefit of the doubt again, and he should be terminated. If he comes back I'm definitely stopping my patron payments and gonna block their channel on YouTube. I'm hoping they do the right thing

  • Yeah makes it easier to identify new stuff. Like I recently added a new NAS into my network, and I didn't have to try and figure out which device it was identified as. Just sitting at 200.1 so I could give it a name and assign a static IP.

  • I live alone. So I just have reserved IPs for each of my devices. Any new device gets assigned >200 so that I can easily identify new stuff, or rogue devices - which hasn't happened lol. The only special IP is my pihole that gets 192.168.1.2 next to my router since I consider it infrastructure basically. Plus pihole is my dhcp server and dns obviously

  • So every single action you ever take is to affect change directly? Seems that you're not affecting change by posting here. Sounds like you're bitching about people bitching. That does nothing. Kinda makes me wanna avoid you.

Let people bitch. It's not hurting you in any way, and might even raise awareness of issues to people who aren't familiar with a particular issue.
