  • Is it weird? Just look at the amount of tsarist officers that went on to become nazi collaborators. Heck, look at the history of the Paris commune - prussians letting French soldiers out (despite having fought them just recently) so they could go kill the communists.

Unless you were being sarcastic, in which case I apologise

  • Update on the cat: the surgery was successful, only one tooth was removed. I have already brought her back home. She is displeased. Her paw seems to be hurting somewhat due to the anesthesia catheter. Additionally, we'll need to get her kidneys checked, because blood biochemistry had some stats in red.

Keep wondering if it's easier with children, because they can at least point where they're hurting. But then realise it's probably worse, mentally.

  • De nada. Similar parades have been happening in Estonia as well. Media often whitewash it as "parade for [insert country] veterans, who fought for their country in the name of patriotism". Ignoring or obfuscating who they fought for and who they fought against.

  • It's been going on in baltics for a while. I wanted to say after their approval into NATO, but apparently it's been happening even before, just less obvious. Here's a wiki link, since I'm too lazy to find better sources.

  • There's been a growing trend in media to question the legitimacy of some of the former soviet republics - usually Ukraine and the baltics. Haven't heard this language used on the likes of Kazakhstan though. Of course the same media never raises the question of legitimacy of the current Russian Federation, which is also very much not USSR.

  • Took my cat to the vet just now. She had dental issues, so we went to get it checked with a dentist. Dentist said it's tooth resorption and can't be cured, so she needs surgery. Which will require sedation. And since she's overweight, sedation will mean intubation, because she wouldn't be able to breathe otherwise. Wish her luck.

  • Other objects have also been hit, haven't they? I haven't been watching the news much, only heard about hacker attacks on Kharkov infrastructure

  • It matters in terms of international law and such, I think. IIRC mercenaries aren't protected by law and don't require certain treatments

  • Bit of a different situation, methinks. AFAIK to get ot Niger, they'd have to fly across Algerian airspace - which Algeria has closed for military aircraft. To get to Ukraine, they'd have to move across Germany and Poland - both of which are in NATO and will likely be of assistance.

  • Apparently comrade Yogthos got banned from WorldNews@lemmy.ml. Couldn't handle the facts, I suppose

  • We can all agree a fundamental root of Western imperialism is the Roman Empire.

    Can we? Should we?

However, it is hard for me to pinpoint the missing link between the Romans and the developed Christendom/ renaissance/ colonial/ industrial Western powers

The "missing link" is the development of productive forces. As described by Marx and Engels. That's it.

It's frankly hard for me to read everything else in your post. Now, I don't mean to be insulting, but I will probably come off as such anyway. My comrade, I have to ask what the hey is going on in your bright head. You are veering into rather strange territory.

There is no need for any of this.

  • Yes. So would our homegrown libs. In fact I would imagine the internet to become unusable (more so than currently) for months afterwards

  • Exactly. They aren't the neat little houses with white picket fences and smiling neighbours. That's just the advertising - like in Back to the Future

  • That's because we do live in a dystopian post-apocalyptic cyberpunk future. Those pretty neon and rain pictures you've seen in cyberpunk themed media? That was advertising, same as pictures of USian suburbs in the 50's

  • That's a bummer, comrade. Sounds like you have a bug - flu or cold or something. Get well soon!

  • Ukraine never had nuclear weapons. USSR did. USSR was dismantled and soviet nuclear weapons were moved from the now "independent" Ukraine to the state that was named USSR's successor in terms of international agreements - Russian Federation.

I understand this may sound like nitpicking, but it is important to keep the distinction in mind when parsing bourgeoisie propaganda
