  • The CDC has instructed its scientists to retract or pause the publication of any research manuscript being considered by any medical or scientific journal, not merely its own internal periodicals

The scope is thankfully limited only to CDC scientists.

Not that this makes it good news by any stretch.

This is going to push research money squarely under the thumb of corporate control, which is of course the aim here. Privatize everything.

I do know scientists hate having their work paywalled or censored so I’d expect sci-hub to get a lot more popular real quick, but many will definitely self censor their official publications to keep their jobs til orange hitler shoots himself in a bunker somewhere.

  • Your sentiments are appreciated and we need more reminders like this out in the world in these dark times.

Yeah, family and loved ones will always have that bias because people are more than their physical appearance. Thoughts, attitudes, habits, feelings, kin. You love someone for all of those reasons and more.

But if I saw a doppelgänger child I’d be lying right to the parents faces to remain cordial.

    YMMV. Highly subjective and all

  • All babies looks ugly to me

Yeah this is in line with how I see babies and kids, so that’s gonna explain some of it. It’s definitely an unwritten rule to say babies are cute.

Though my cousin had a couple kids and the youngest was the exception to the rule when he was like 2-6, just the cutest little thing.

    So I don’t know.

  • It goes a step beyond for me.

I look at kid pictures of myself and think I was an ugly looking baby. Everyone else thinks I was cute. Which I take to mean everyone is being polite, but I couldn't care less because I don't remember being that kid whatsoever.

  • It was 30 years ago, but the tipping percentage has been subject to inflation for some reason right alongside the cost of the service.

Feels like an intentional double dip as a fuck you to me.

  • I wouldn't count on it.

But that's been my strategy lately, setting the bar for expectations so low it's in hell. That way I am never surprised, and it's appalling how many news headlines have been limbo-ing their way under that in recent times.

This article is framed in a way that makes it sound hopeful, but this bit kind of ruins the whole thing

saying they saw or did things that crossed ethical lines

    Emphasis mine.

So basically we have child murderers who regret doing it because now they're haunted by the spectre of their atrocities. At best we have guys who stood by while watching their coworkers murder children which isn't really better, just less evil.

  • What’s the game plan if they did?

    Trade restrictions?

China already proved those did fuck all to stop them from developing their own model.

Ducking knew this ai bubble would burst sooner or later, just glad we can finally get on with it now.

  • Thanks for the heads up, though this would be less of an issue if you have the email app on your phone or the tab pinned in Firefox.

The real issue is i gotta use another authentication app for my email now, have been using Bitwarden itself for 2fa codes for proton. Definitely can’t use proton pass to 2fa for my proton account.

I don’t even know. Gonna have to find another reputable authenticator app.

Guess I should also check if Bitwarden or proton support physical security keys. Would be pretty bomb proof since my keys are always in my pocket anyway.

  • Of course someone made a tool for this

It’s a good idea but it looks really outdated. Searched for 0.01 and the first page is almost entirely dead links or nowhere close to its listed price. Only 2 I found were the Baptist pamphlet for 25 cents and a washer for 36 cents(listed as 34).

So hopefully they update it for guys like OP

  • Jojoba oil. I recommend getting it pure and not mixed with other ingredients.

I started using this for my face when I lived with very dry and cold winters. Liked it so much that it's replaced moisturizers for me basically permanently despite moving away from those brutal winters. It's amazing because it doesn't clog pores and cause breakouts, and it absorbs into my beard and keeps things from being itchy.

  • They've been doing this for years.

It's why I've made a 'save for later' collection of things I either use on the regular like my favorite soap or face cleanser, or really low cost things ($1 or less) I could make use of like single use eyewash to put in a first aid kit, things like that.

Annoying that I have to play their stupid little game, but this lets me bump it past 35 without it being wasteful

Kind of a tangent, but this is probably a good opportunity to throw out there that Amazon is pretty often not the lowest cost place to buy something these days. For example, I needed a specific but simple hand tool and Amazon wanted $5-6 for it but the harbor freight on the way to work costs $2. Worth a second search
