  • No, I am forced to use containers because... There are no instructions for bare-metal installation and they also do not provide any instruction on how to build from sources (and I tried...)

Also, there are no binary releases only docker-compose.

All in all, immich cannot be deployed but with containers.

    No choice: not good.

  • You need two instances of radarr

  • Its a solution to one of the typical Linux issues. Its a step toward overcaming the fragmentation of Linux package managers.

I don't personally like it too much, I prefer the distro package stuff, but I understand the app developers cannot manage a plethora of different package formats.

Distro maintainters should, but its clearly more and more a massive task for different distros to keep up with the amount of apps out there.

Also, npm, pip and the various "packaging" ways existing add to the chaos.

I see distro package managers converge toward providing basic packages for the general system and some other solution like flatpack to provide additional stuff.

I think it would be wrong for flatpack/containers to replace package managers as well, it's not their scope.

  • Docker (better use Podman!) Is, I am afraid, hard to avoid nowadays. I fully agree with you that bare-metal deployment should always be an option.

Its one of my biggest issues with immich/photoprism/librephotos but there is no way around that.

Immich is the only container I have on my system... A necessary evil (joking).

I know containers now, but still don't like them too much. I am old I am afraid.

But you shouldn't be FORCED to use containers, that's my point.

  • Do NOT relock a phone unless stock ROM is installed!

The system image signature will be different and you will brick your phone.

This is true for Samsung and Xiaomi, might not be true for Pixels, but I wouldn't risk it.

  • Thanks, but not going to host a docker container just for such a stupid thing. Silverbullet.md did cut the cheese for me and it was even simpler.

  • Cool! I didn't noticed you could edit files from within it, but yes, that's a cool option as well. Silverbullet.md turned out to be more interesting though, so i have self hosted it too.

  • Yes! that did it! Great piece of tool!

  • I already do, it's written in the opening post. I am looking for a webgui to edit markdown files on the server

  • does it have a self-hosted web part? i can't find it. The website only let me download a fuckton 170mb appimage for linux

  • Well, while much interesting indeed, i am not ready to install VSCode itself just for notes. I would prefer not to have the option to edit them online then.

  • Nah, moving away from NextCloud, it worked fine, but again overkill only for this

  • Yeah, looks interesting but way too overkill i guess?

  • I use a laptop and external jbod covered with a low power ups. As other said, the point is to bridge powergaps now long term working powerless. I live in the countrisied, so small powergaps happens specially when my photovoltaic don't produce (no, i have no battery accumulators, too expensive)

  • I think you are correct on most of it, but judging if somebody has or not alternatives is impossible. Of course everybody has alternatives, at least in the western world, but still lots of good and ethical people work for Nestlé.

  • Go Av1, much better support: all recent amazon fire sticks support it, I am am using one and loving it.

    Jellyfin ofc

H264 is great, but h265 is basically feels like a dead end. Av1 instead is picking up lots of steam. I am betting on it instead of h265.

  • Find me a company that is not evil. Should we become all eco-beekepers or starve?

Following your reasoning all marketing jobs should be unethical. Where do you draw the line?

No, working is not unethical no matter who pays you.

Reality is more complex than ideals.

  • Yes it is. You are not the one ordering purchasing or using those.

You boycott by not buying Nestlé not by not working in it.
