  • Just run backrest backup on each server three times, one for each remote backup tepository. Easy enough.

  • You can share jellyfin on the net. I do.

The issues shared wide and large are mostly moot points, where the attacker needs to already have access to the jellyfin itself to have any surface.

Its FUD and I am convinced spread by Plex people in an effort to cover up their fuckup and enshittyfication.

  • Move away from LW if you don't like them. There are lots of Lemmy instances with different rules, find one that suits you or self host yours like I do.

Try doing that with reddit now.

Also, mods are mods, its not a Lemmy or reddit thing, but power tripping is just human. Go to 4chan or similar for anarchy unregulated forums, not to Lemmy or reddit.

As for privacy, I already replied separately.

  • Privacy, do you realize you ate posting publicly? Don't associate your email to your lemmy user and never post any bit of info that can link to your real self if you want privacy.

There is not much expectation of privacy when you act public I am afraid. At least Lemmy, choosing your instance wisely, will protect your anonymity which is as much as privacy you can expect when going public.

Sorry man, but there can be no expectations of privacy when you choose to be public. At most, you can aim for being anonymous. Create e private non federated Lemmy instance if you want privacy in your Lemmy posts, the federation concept itself cannot guarantee you privacy.

I am all for privacy... Just do not expect it when being public myself in my posts and actions.

  • Shit in, shit out.

    That how ai works.

    No workaround that.

It can only spit out what its training material was based on.

  • Deep level packet inspection, they detect patterns or whatever in encrypted traffic (and the lack of thereof) and ban the destination ip china-wide.

How they do I have no idea, but they do, on my direct first hand experience. Its not based on domain names, directly straight and total ip ban. All ports, all domains on that ip get banned forever just because you started using a VPN (OpenVPN in my case, it was a few years ago).

  • Doesn't solve any problem I have. Why switch?

Also, interesting concept the immutable one, but just... Why?

  • It will work for a bit, then they will detect VPN traffic and just block the destination ip for good. Any ip you will use will be shortly unreachable for you, so be prepared to that.

  • LOL you madre me laugh...

Anyway being security conscious is important, and better be safe than sorry...

  • I would expect that in such an advanced society snoring has been "fixed" for good...

  • On windows 10 notepad is just plain old notepad, the same since ever. When did it got all those extra features in the last 10 years?

But see, we are debating notepad and not recommending Linux, at least....

(Indeed you ate right, I was referring to something I only thought and didn't wrote: that there would be somebody fretting over how notepad had to have text correction capabilities, and you did, but I didn't write that, so my answer did not make sense. Probably I am not making sense either now, whatever)

  • "Ju u- Lin"

A bit less that half reply

    /s

Let's discuss instead why would be good to replace such a solid and no frills tool like notepad at all?

So that people can just shit on windows... Would that be better than use Linux?

  • ... On notepad?

Oh come on, use some word editor if you need autocorrect. Notepad is a quick fast text editor that is mostly used for script editing and small stuff, its supposed to be just a plain text editor.

Having said that, I will shut up but still think that notepad never needed a rehaul.

  • Domains are cheap, shop around and get the cheapest 1st level you find, and buy a second level under that one.

For example, mylemmy.eu since .eu are by far the cheapest I can buy over here. It can go from 1 buck to 20 Buck per year, even more for special 1st levels (like .love)

  • The issue here is the USB stick, not the router. Use WiFi no problem but self hosting on a 32gb stick is a disaster waiting to happen, specially with a write intensive task as lemmy.

Edit: go on and experiment. Even with an USB stick... Then after you make experience try with something more stable, like a small pi is well enough or an older PC too is fine.

  • Get a switch, a cheap 5 ports gigabit one is only like 10 bucks or 20 if you want a reputable brand (not needed).

    Or just use WiFi...
