Conduwuit is actively developed and works pretty nice for me. Single user, but bridged to hundreds of telegram, WhatsApp and discord rooms. As well as a few matrix rooms too.
Also there are many different server implementations and its hard to believe they all send your data to some third entity. In other words, what is stated by that link is just plain false. Not to mention that today there are quite many clients as well and I find the bridge point a bit... Idiotic.
You are free to use matrix.org but makes way more sense to self host your instance, and maybe not even use Synapse but something more "modern" as server.
Authelia doesn't seems to follow the "free tier / paid tier" approach of other solutions, and doesn't seems to have a commercial company backing it. While i have nothing against monetizing your work, i tend to prefer solutions that don't rely on a commercial partner behind that could start an enshittification strategy sometime in the future or worse.
Authelia gave me a better feeling.
Of course, i might be completely wrong. And, as i wrote, i never tried other solutions before Authelia, which fitted my bill immediately.
Mostly to remember what I did and why. But also help others, and offer a different view on the self host approach (Gentoo, no systemd, podman rootless... ).
Love summit, glad to hear this welcome evolution.
