  • Your first link actually seems to highlight the problem perfectly... Republicans complain all day long about Immigrants being the cause of all their problems, but then they turn around and tank their own bill because it would look bad if immigration problems dropped during Biden's term. Amazing how you've got more illegal crossings when there's nobody there actually watching for people. What would happen if Republicans stopped blocking everything Democrats support for the sole reason being that the Dems supported it? What would happen if they started trying to work for the Americans they claim to represent? I'm not saying Dems don't do a little bit of that too, but at least they try to work across the isles to get things done. Lately the only contribution Republicans have made is to block everything that might help Americans, and might help the immigration issue, and they haven't actually passed a damned thing that is helpful to anyone.

  • True enough, but how you are going to convince enough people to change a lifetime of voting habits? I mean I voted 3rd-party in 2016 because it literally doesn't matter in my district -- we vote more than 80% Democrat so a few people changing their vote wasn't going to matter. However after losing in 2016 to that shitstain I'm simply not willing to take that chance again. I know my one vote still wouldn't make a difference, but for me the principle this time is voting directly against Trump by voting Dem. And hoping that Conservatives finally realize Trump isn't a "radical change", he is just outright insane and doesn't give a rats ass about anyone who is worth less than tens of millions of dollars, and that the next election provides candidates who aren't treating people's lives like a stupid reality show.

  • I really hope not, there are certainly better candidates on her short-list... but unfortunately we don't really have a say in that part. Guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks, at least she's announced her candidates early enough that the shit can hit the fan on the internet and give her a heads-up about certain choices being wildly unpopular.

  • Now you're just trying to impress Republican policies onto Democrats. Democrats accept immigrants and welcome the diversity into our country, Republicans just want to deport everyone who isn't a "true white American".

  • Oh I don't fault anyone for trying to make a point. My biggest concern is what's on the line for this election. When you have half of America being stupid enough to think that voting for Trump somehow gives them more freedom, when in fact he already has a history of taking away the rights of over half the population and documented plans to do even more damage, something is seriously wrong. We simply can't afford to give him another term in charge. The only way we'll ever change the system is by demanding some sort of ranked-choice voting where our votes actually count for something, and fortunately there are already efforts underway to bring that in to several states.

  • I mean at this point Shapiro isn't even a presumptive nominee, he's just one of the possible candidates. I think the only reason he's even being considered is because he might bring in some extra votes in a large swing State.

It's odd to me that so many Arab voters are leaning towards Stein. As much as we hate it, this is still a two-party nation, and in an election where the votes might be close why would you take any chances in basically throwing away your vote? Personally I would still cast my ballot for the candidate who hasn't directly threatened my family. Then again polls are not ballots, and as we get closer to November a lot of people's opinions could still change.

  • Alternatively, they could vote for Trump who has already stated his desire to increase all bans on Muslim immigrants. How long before his racist leadership tries to outright deport all Muslim citizens for not being "white enough"?

  • Funny how the police act like they're the ones being threatened, when they are usually the ones who walk right up to people that are standing a distance away and start getting aggressive. Their behavior suggests that even MORE people need to be recording because obviously the safety of innocent civilians is at stake.

  • What if Microsoft updated their Windows EULA to state that all users agree to allow MS to scrape their online data (if they haven't already), and then take that to court against reddit? It would certainly be an interesting court case to watch, especially if they could get actual users to stand up in court and confirm that they did indeed approve of this. And it might settle the issue once and for all regarding companies trying to block freely-visible internet content just because someone scraped the info.

  • So you're complaining because you don't like the candidate that pretty much all Democrats have already given their support for? There's no appearance of anything fishy, and it doesn't seem that anyone has any objections to Harris stepping up -- other than Republicans who suddenly find themselves running against a candidate that is trouncing their beloved leader. It just sounds like you're trying to stir up discord when there is none within the party that will be voting for her.

  • You mean the same Republicans who have wrapped their entire existence around blaming illegal immigrants for all of their imaginary problems?

By the way, this site isn't allowing direct linking to the article. The only way I could reach it was to go to their main page for today (https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/07/) and then click the link from there. However the articles on this site are utter garbage, attempting to put a Conservative slant on everything they report. I mean just look at those headlines they're sporting.

Here's a more reputable report on the incident which states that people are NOT protesting the migrants being housed in the shelters, but rather the fact that the city isn't creating MORE shelters to properly support the number of immigrants that are in the area. Funny how that tells a completely different story than "Democrats protesting the migrants they voted to shelter".

  • I'm not sure about anything that does rolling backups of full disks, but I have used rdiff-backup for years for rolling backups of individual files. The format for the backup is similar to (and based on) rsync so it's fairly easy to script. For complete servers I just keep a copy of the install image on hand, in a catastrophic drive failure I can do a new installation to a new drive (creating the partitions, grub setup, etc), then restore the latest backup. An alternative might be to use dd and create a full drive image file to use as your starting point in a full recovery.

One thing to keep in mind though is that the backups should NOT contain any system folders like dev or proc that get generated at boot. If possible, when making a starting image with dd, you want the drive to be separate and not part of the running OS, because some folders like dev and var have a basic set of files in place needed for the boot process which may be different than the final version you see after the OS is up and running. That's why I find it easier to just plan around a clean install to new drives when needed.

  • So much this... Despite trying to drive defensively I have been involved in two major car accidents. The first one I walked away from, but the second one put me on Flight for Life. Despite the accident itself being pretty bad, the only physical issue was a broken leg that took a couple years to heal properly. However the REAL issue took longer to realize -- something from that accident has caused me to have continued sleep issues since then. I'll be on medications the rest of my life probably, and even then I still have trouble getting restful sleep if I've been physically active.

Yeah it's easy to feel invincible when you're young, and your body can heal from a lot, but just remember that those things can also fuck up your shit in ways you might not realize until years later. Things you take for granted now (like sleep) can really screw up your enjoyment of life when they don't work right.

  • Would love to see this happen, in a way that doesn't allow for a political majority agenda. They are supposed to be above and separate from politics, instead we have nearly a majority who are willing to publicly take it up the rear for Trump while ignoring their sworn duty.

  • There was reason to have a moment of hope, but she fell in line with all the other politicians. Still doesn't change the fact that Trump has exactly the same position, so we really can't separate the candidates based on their stance of genocide... Unless you also want to bring Ukraine into the discussion, where Trump has previously stated he would end all support for Ukraine and back Russia's genocide.
