  • Paul Ryan was literally the speaker candidate that was chosen to appease the Freedumb Caucus (McCarthy was the original choice lol). Ryan is probably the biggest reason someone like Trump came into power.

  • Like that "American" girl that joined ISIS and tried to come back but then the courts were like... actually we don't think you're an American citizen. Have fun in Syria!

  • This just made me realize how much of a pain it is to spell words with the abbreviations of elements.

  • It would probably be Ramaswamy. He's ahead of DeSantis in many polls and essentially believes everything Trump does. Plus he has way more charisma than DeSantis.

  • For there to be actual competition the moderates would need to drop any remaining DeSantis support (which probably isn't much) and unite under Haley (preferably) or Pence/Christie. Haley has been gaining some traction in NH so it could be possible but probably unlikely. Trump will more than likely run away with the nomination.

  • This is why accessibility features excite me. In addition to helping people with disabilities now, I foresee a future where I will be needing them in the nursing home.

  • Because I don't think people like Woj are ever coming to Mastodon. I use Mastodon, but it is largely tech people.

  • You're being downvoted but this is very true. And Twitter has sometimes made it difficult to see those Tweets when you don't have an account.

A number of sports journalists have joined Threads though. I don't care for Meta, but I'm still rooting for Threads as an alternative to Twitter so there would be a less scummy way to get sports updates.

  • Because your comment suggests that heat pumps can't work in Canada. It's like an American dismissing heat pumps because Alaska is part of the US. For at least 70% (if not more like 90%) of Canadians, heat pumps work just fine. Obviously, if you are in the part of Canada that gets consistently below -40 degrees, don't get a heat pump.

Also, I'm not from Toronto or Canadian so I'm not sure all that talk about elitism applies to me. I'm from a small city in the US where I experience weather similar to most Canadians.

  • Which would account for 5-10% of the Canadian population. Just the three metros I mentioned would account for 35% of Canadians. The record low for the coldest of those cities (Montreal) is -36F, but the average low in January is 7F.

70% of Canadians live south of the 49th parallel (the northernmost point of the Continental US) and 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border.

  • Tbf, most Canadians don't live in those areas. Places like Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver rarely get that cold.

  • Also water. If you eat a bunch of fiber without water... believe it or not, also constipation.

  • I wonder if this would be a possible use case for the stupid Dyson headphone filter. It uses positive pressure to provide you with filtered air. However, I'm not certain the filter would be enough to clean exhaust fumes.

Another issue would be that you probably shouldn't be wearing headphones while biking, but maybe they have a passthrough mode.

  • I watched the video with the kid, his mom, and the administrator. I'll totally defend the boys right to wear the patch, but he really looked like an annoying little twat.

However, even more annoying was the incompetent admin from that video.

  • I really wish there was a campaign to take back the flag before it goes the way of the swastika. Although, Gadsen himself was a terrible racist and heavily involved in the slave trade, so might be tough to claim the flag with his name attached to it.

  • For that to even remotely be an issue there would need to be millions of moon landings. If we reach that point we could probably easily yeet our fecal waste into deep space if we needed to.

  • Reddit has toxic positivity with regards to Starfield. I find the comments I've read here so far to be a much more measured take. Basically that it's a good game but it has a few minor issues that make it not live up to what was advertised.

  • Look up what phenotype means. I'll help you, it's the observable characteristics of an individual. The way a person looks can be part of the social construct that defines them as a race.

  • At the same time, I think it's a bit more fluid than that. You'll definitely have individuals who can pass for different ethnic groups. I'm South Indian and I can often pass for North Indian (especially because my name is typically North Indian).
