  • When you buy a research paper, the author doesn't get any cut from it. The journals are scams, and should be destroyed. Until that happens, try searching on arxiv.org first, usually there are preprints available there. If not, contact the authors. Most of us are happy to share our results. Your local library can also help you get access to those.

These are the more legitimate ways, and then there's sci-hub. I've actually seen internationally renowned researchers open a paper using sci-hub on their laptop lol.

  • Idk, installing Linux was pretty easy 10 years ago too. Can't comment about anything earlier than that though.

  • Someone showed me MSWLogo in high school. I figured out that I can draw cool stuff, and do calculations in it. It inspired me to learn a real programming language. C was my first language. Then a learned C++, and Python. Then I lost interest in it for a few years, got a bachelor's in math. I'm still in math, but I gradually regained some interest in programming. It started with the odd bash script I had to write from time to time. Then I had some larger problem to solve, and decided to learn Rust to do it. Turned out great, it's on GitHub with ~100 stars. Currently I mostly code in Haskell and Lean, both for non-professional hobby work.

    TL;Dr: I found it fun.

  • Hey, we don't say that word here.

  • We are wasting up to 20% of our time with bronze problems.

  • I'm not totally against fireworks. As others have mentioned, sometimes we do need to just have some fun and not worry about the consequences. But they should be done far from residential area, so that unwilling people (e.g. vets, children, or pets) aren't disturbed. (Honestly though, I wish we didn't have any vets with PTSD, that's the worse problem. As long as we still have wars, I'd say let the people have some fun.)

  • Coffee. Caffeine doesn't really work for me in terms of giving me energy, but I like the taste of a nice cup of cortado.

I like tea as well, but can't stand the herbal stuff. Only Camellia sinensis for me.

  • Rapist mentality.

  • That's me. I do find some images of puppies or kittens cute though. But never the grown up ones. And it's not that bad. I just don't go to those communities.

  • I'm not the one who's trying to change history here. We know that the Chinese have the oldest recorded tea consumption. Doesn't make that the only valid way of doing it. It's like saying that there's only one authentic way to cook a potato, which is whatever the first person did with it.

And about whatever you said about tea being a new thing in India, it's not accurate. It was first mass produced after the British came. But it actually goes back quite a bit. Camellia sinensis var. assamica is actually indigenous to the Assam region of India, and not "stolen from the Chinese". Some think that some tribes in India (Singpho, Khamti) have been consuming tea from at least the 12th Century, though they had a different name for it. Some (A Revision of the Genus Camellia by Robert Sealy) think it goes back further, but idk about that.

But honestly, that's not even the point. Why did you even feel the need to type this comment? Even if it was a 200 old tradition, that's a pretty long time. And it should be accepted as a valid way of brewing. I'm not even disputing anything. I simply pointed out that there are alternative traditions. That the world isn't fucking black and white. Seriously dude, when did I say anything that claimed that Indians invented tea? This isn't twitter, no need to do this shit here.

  • Why do you think that the Chinese way is the only way to prepare authentic tea? It's so weird dude. We have an ancient tea tradition in India. That's my point. That a purist might think this method as the proper way too. And it'd be just as valid.

  • Which is a type of tea.

  • Fun fact: Ghoti is a (sort of) derogatory term for people with ancestry from West Bengal (a state in India) used by people with ancestry from Bangladesh. (Sort of, because no one really considers it offensive. The modern use is usually limited to signifying cultural differences.)

  • Truly one of the doods of all time.

  • The stock market literally forces companies to be evil. Once you do an IPO, you're contractually obliged to be shitty in order to bring higher revenues.

  • It depends. It's perfectly acceptable to boil the tea for many Indian preparations (usually called cha or chai).
