  • I'm hoping they've quietly been working on individual Republicans. It'd make sense to do this very quietly.

I have no evidence of this. Of course we wouldn't. But it also seems like it should have happened by now. Was shoving the military into LA not enough?

  • True, but his main point stands. It's not just this. Every single time the Trump admin does something shitty, one of the first three comments is about how it's the Democrats fault.

    Lemmy is being manipulated.

I'm hoping the truth can prevail over the very loud noise. But if five people come after me to argue against Democrats, what will most people in here end up believing?

I'm fine with criticizing Democrats when it's specific and targeted. This one kind of gets there. But, you know, isn't there a bigger issue?

  • Yes, correct. Absolutely. Because there are ramifications way fucking beyond that one instance.

Similarly, if my neighbor's dog sometimes pisses on the petunias, a gun would absolutely solve the problem, yet despite being extremely effective it may not be the best solution.

  • The Constitution is nothing if people are not willing to protect and defend it.

We're not getting though this passively. We're not getting this done through courts alone.

Really soon we're going to have to make people, particularly those wearing badges and masks choose a side first, and go back to the courts to see who was right after.

I just hope it's done in an organized way, where those people DO have a choice. Just disobeying orders as a lone soldier or officer is not nearly as effective as being part of a group.

  • Why do you need an ID? Leave it in your car if you're driving.

I don't think there's a single state that requires you to actually carry documentation.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_and_identify_statutes

These are the states that require you to at least verbally state your name, and only if the officer has reasonable suspicion that you have or will commit a crime.

They can ask your name. You may not have to answer.

Research your state's law on this before you go. It's in the link.

  • Maybe, maybe not. Politicians have always had a finger in the wind on some issues. I think if you gave a decent historical account including things like current crime rates by race and the bombing of Tulsa, and just mention "generational wealth" like they're already familiar with it, and then gave them 24 hours to sit on it, I think they'd all be good with it.

Consider if someone took you, shoved you 200 years into the future and said, "Eating animals was some fucked up shit. Do you know what happened in Factory Farms? Really? Of course we're all vegetarian.".

  • Border patrol is hardly related to our current problems. Even following orders to go stand in a certain place isn't terrible until you actually do something wrong.

The fact that people (National Guard, Marines, whatever) showed up in LA is a problem. Most of those actual people themselves are not the problem.

  • My friend thinks the jobs don't exist, and they're just posted so the company looks good.

They definitely did that at college job fairs. They wanted to keep their spot, but weren't hiring that year.
