I think the cyber security prof might be different.

Hillary was wrong in the same way W was wrong and several before her.

It was shitty and borderline illegal, but not much more than smoking weed in the wrong state is illegal. Everyone else is doing it and the law is rarely enforced.

Hillary fully deserved a slap on the wrist. And it would be good if it stops. But it was also unusual to pick that time to enforce it.

And what these guys are currently doing is wildly more reckless and irresponsible. At minimum it disqualifies them from the job. Prison time should be a possibility.

He's doing most of those things. This is still impressive.

People don't seem to understand that they don't have much actual power until a few Republicans decide to stand up for their country.

Matter over Thread is generally what you should look for. Local control is always possible, and it'll work with any major ecosystem.

You do need a "Thread Border Router", which you likely already own. If you're tech inclined, Home Assistant is amazing, though it takes some tinkering.

You're a fucking joke if you think the last two months is representative of the US over the past 75 years.

A couple issues.

The Signal chat didn't show that anyone wanted Europe dead. Agree or not, it showed that the administration wants Europe to be responsible for their own military interests (As though the US received nothing from being the security for the West over the past 75 years.)

If they want to see Europe destroyed, those receipts have to come from elsewhere.

Secondly, helping Ukraine is in everyone's interest except for Trump and the GOP. Stopping the stupid fucking tariffs is in America's interests. Trump succumbing to his age is in America's interests.

Don't confuse America's interests with those of the people who want to destroy and weaken America. Other than that, the point is correct. Europe needs to be much more active in Ukraine, even if the US administration may object.

Honestly, I don't think Lemmy, or any other anonymous social media can really counter this. Outside of heavy moderation in the opposite direction, anyway, which doesn't feel great.

It's just too easy for hostile governments to spin up as many dozens of accounts as they need to argue against you, argue on your side (but badly), and simply just drown you out. It doesn't take much of that for real people to retreat. Why would you post an opinion that you know is going to immediately get shit on by a dozen "people"?

It was legitimately funny, when it was still a joke. The memes were good. There was no way that idiot was going to be a serious contender. It was all in good fun.

At least until someone would say, "you know this is just a joke, right?" Any kind of self-awareness was banned within seconds. Now I don't know if you're familiar with volunteer moderators, but it's pretty rare that they catch that kind of volume 24 hours a day within seconds.

I fully believe there were state-level troll farms operated by a hostile foreign government moderating that subreddit.

If there's a patriot running that prison, you can just release these political dissidents. You know they haven't committed a crime. You know they're being held illegally.

People have decided the issue is about which team you pick. Apparently it's a sport where "your team" is good and the other guys are bad.

Who needs nuance when you can just rail against your perceived enemies (anyone who disagrees with you even slightly).

I do think the US in particular should have pulled the leash on Netanyahu. Sure felt like they had a different understanding of who has the power in that relationship. (Thanks, AIPAC.)

However, regardless of the US stance, I think s genocide happens there no matter what. Even so, slowly and constantly over 30 years is better than devastation over 30 months.

It's not a black and white situation.
