  • By politicians who have trained large parts of the public to ignore facts and listen to them instead

I would argue that particular surrogacy was handled by religion in the US, especially fundamentalist evangelicalism.

For religions of this kind, belief without evidence, and especially contrary to evidence, is virtuous, the purest form of devotion — blessed is he who believes without seeing — and it’s not a big leap from spiritual authority to political.

Politicians didn’t have to do any training, unfortunately. We trained ourselves.

Edit: made exception for mindfulness religions, my apologies

  • Look I’d be happy with a recount. I think they should recount, just to be as sure as possible. What I’m not OK with are conspiracy theories and lies.

    2004 when ballot interference occurred

I was there in 2004. Lots of conspiracy theories were pumped on the blogs that were ultimately unfounded. If I recall, Stephen’s “expert claim” pertained to Ohio and that claim was spurious.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_United_States_election_voting_controversies

The steal in Florida was real but it came in the form of a phone call, not a software exploit.

  • The second letter is just advising re: the leaked software and suggesting an expanded hand count. It doesn’t offer any “damning” evidence. It doesn’t even claim election interference. And the spoonamore letter is more of the same BS from his interviews and doesn’t answer my questions at all. What am I supposed to see?

  • I don’t know the other names. Just Spoonamore, who is known only for his fake credentials and for crying wolf.

If I’m reading correctly, the evidence is primarily that “the numbers” look too high to Spoonamore. I’m not sure where he gets the “35 billion to 1 probability” from, because he doesn’t show his work anywhere.

Most of these states already hand count samples to verify the machine counts, so it’s weird he says a hand count is needed but hasn’t addressed what supposedly went wrong with the original hand count.

I voted Harris-Walz and have no doubt trump would cheat if he could, but I don’t trust this publication, the author, or the “expert” being interviewed, and the writing style smells like sensationalist drivel cooked up to drive engagement.

  • I would guess there’s an upward slope of young contributors that reduce significantly at post-grad and early career ages (e.g. early-mid-twenties) followed by another upward gradient on a 5-10 year delay that peaks in the late 30s then falls somewhat linearly up to 60s.

The median age of the younger/learning cohort might be 19 and falling. The median age of the established developer cohort might be mid-40s and climbing.

  • Yes, insofar as many reflexive actions, enervation and fiber recruitment thresholds respond to training, such that they “remember“ actions you have performed many times before. There are many clusters of nerves throughout the body called ganglia that are responsible for low-latency control of various functions that would entail too much delay when controlled entirely by the brain.

Generally, the minimum input-process-activation turnaround time of the brain is about 4 hz (240-250 ms) which is too slow for many applications of motor function. But the “co-processing” allowed by the extended nervous system enables the body to, with practice, execute far more rapid and complex action sequences in response to local stimuli. Some actions can be triggered and completed before a signal even makes it to the brain.

    1. DNS resolver, like pi-hole, unbound with adguard, diversion, etc.
    2. RMS server: a lot of Remote Desktop software has the option to install a listener on a low power device elsewhere on the network that can use wake-on-lan to access computers within the network without keeping everything on 24-7.
    3. Log aggregator: would be useful for anyone who troubleshoots stuff regularly, but historical info of any kind can come in handy.
Simplest form might be a scribe server. Network gear often has an option to send logs to a particular URL, so if you added the scribe server IP/port to the field you’d have historical network logs.
    4. Additional loggers: could also be run on-device, such as a wifi connectivity checker, smart home or energy monitoring state data, decibel meter with USB microphone
    5. RADIUS server for managing enterprise WPA keys
    6. Mobile home: due to the size and power draw, when paired with a hotspot and battery the potato could be useful as a mobile service repeater, a VPN client that deploys your home services on the go (e.g. in a vehicle, hotel room, family/friends’ houses, etc) to arbitrary client devices. If you use the same SSID/PW and encryption type, personal devices would use it automatically during travel.
    7. Home theater box like kodi or jellyfin client

At the level of individual apps, the list explodes. Many progressive web apps can be hosted essentially for free on the potato, so you could shunt your always-on services to this machine to allow low power states on a beefier machine. For example:

    1. Network management or security software like Fing
    2. Low throughput NAS or incremental backup management server like rdiff, TimeMachine, etc
    3. inventory management like partkeeper, storaji, etc
    4. Smart home bridges like homeassistant or homebridge
    5. Bookmark aggregator or landing page like heimdall, raindrop, pinalist, etc
    6. Retro game emulators or ROM libraries like retropie
    7. Photo libraries like photoprism
    8. Book libraries like calibre-web

Edit: list subitem formatting messed up
Edit: add common micro services, mobile deployment
    Edit: add home theater suggestion
Edit: add always-on and PWA examples

  • Although most ADHD symptoms are things that neurotypical folks experience sometimes, if it seems like a lot of these are familiar, or describe a lot of your experience, you might consider asking your doctor about it.

The more we understand about ADHD, the more we realize how many undiagnosed people have been struggling with it their entire lives without support.

  • Agreed except that’s definitely not the only way into the system.

It’s just the only way to have implicit trust from most while on the inside. That’s because (deep breath) who in their right mind would forfeit their birthright to save their lessers?

Of course I’d like to think I would but will never know. In history, however, we can see that there are always a few individuals who do precisely that.

Also one way to fix it from the inside goes kaboom.

  • Know thyself. The cancer of fascism is fed by fear of people, which is used to acquire and consolidate power, and spread more fear.

The fact that you already associate crime and terrorism with immigrants means that the cancer is already growing within you.

  • It’s cute that you think [positive] … Frankly, I expect [negative] … and nothing will be done about it.

You may have intended a sardonic or exasperated tone, rather than defeatism, in which case I was too harsh.

Even so, we must be cognizant of how easy it is to inadvertently amplify cynicism and despair. Some have little fight left and might just stay home when they are needed most.

  • Yeah I was being somewhat cheeky. But it is true in one sense, because we’ve entered a new chapter and everything has changed.

Now it is clear that the only thing that will mobilize the American working class to overthrow a fascist regime (and the 0.1% class they serve) is a rock-solid, revolutionary promise of extensive socialist economic reform, broad democratic electoral reform, and an explosion of public works that would make FDR blush.

There is no going back. Status quo politics died on November 5th, 2024. That era is gone. No more “moderate“ republicans. No more “Liberal” democrats. GOP now can only elect trump cronies. Dems now will struggle to elect anyone but progressives.

As to who leads the charge, I think it will be AOC, because Bernie is setting up an alley-oop and she is the only one among them with the energy and chutzpah to slam dunk a national bash-the-fash campaign.
