  • Well it was you who implied that a distro shipping the DE with wayland has to do extra testing that they don't do. I just replied stating that distros are testing and validating for wayland to be the default.

    X works for me.

Good. No one is stopping you from using it.

  • The fighter has an intersex disorder which makes their sex ambiguous to anyone that doesn't have access to their medical record, and she has been disqualified from competing in past events due to failing female tests, Olympics is one of the few places to allow her to compete.

Do you have a source on the intersex disorder claim. I have seen a lot of articles claim that XY DNA was found in her samples by IBA but the IBA never released their medical results nor what tests they conducted.

  • Considering that Ubuntu, Fedora and any distro with Gnome or KDE as the default DE already come with Wayland as the default, it is clear they have been testing their own shit when it comes to Wayland and then shifting to Wayland by default.

  • Not anything about HDMI 2.1 VRR, it probably only supports VRR via DisplayPort Adaptive Sync.

I verified from the user manual that the freesync is supported over HDMI 2.0(Its a budget 1080p monitor so no HDMI 2.1). The issue seems to be that the HDMI forum has not allowed code necessary for FreeSync HDMI in the open source drivers. Fuck proprietary solutions. I hope that DP (through usb-c or mini DP) becomes the standard even in budget laptops which currently come only with HDMI.

  • Well I usually look past the auto generated answer because that is not 100% accurate. Digging through many forums, I found comments like these which caused some confusion. The common thread between everybody claiming to have FreeSync is that they are running X11. I just thought since adaptive sync/freesync is a hardware feature, if(and it is a big if as I dont think VRR works for them even if it shows as enabled in the X11 configs) these people have it running on X11, maybe there is a way to get it running on Wayland.

There was this article as well which added to the confusion.

  • Well frankly, I dont actually care much about VRR. The post was only to gather information because I saw some conflicting info. I agree that expecting an implementation of a proprietary spec in open source is foolish and people should be willing to make some sacrifices in exchange of freedom. What I do request is that you dont be ass about it when you recommend DP.

  • In some ways, pushing people towards DP is good because it is a better spec than HDMI for the consumers in general and for the open source community specifically. The issue is that people are too zealous in recommending and pushing it.

In my case, I dont care much for VRR (Years of playing on crappy hardware have made me somewhat immune to tearing). I was just curious hence the post. Switching to display port is not an option since my laptop has no DisplayPort support whatsoever.

  • Yeah I agree that HDMI sucks but unfortunately my Laptop doesn't have any Display Port and my USB-C port doesn't have display port alt mode.

I have never seen Freesync over HDMI work.

Is this your experience on all OSes or on Linux only¿? AMD does mention on their website that many displays support freesync over HDMI.

  • Well I hope the crap going on passes and the personal things work out favourably. Just remember that there more sane reasonable people out there than the ones sowing division and hatred. Hell the fact that lemmy is thriving with thousands of servers points to the unity that people can achieve. Cheers

  • So around 47% of people have voted for the British GP as compared 13% for the Canadian GP. I am not able to understand this massive discrepancy. Both were wet dry races with strategy and skill playing major roles but I felt that there was more action in Canada so I cannot fathom how so few people voted for it. The percentages of both should be much more even

  • I dont need these games. Just curious as to why you are doing this. The giveaways which happened last year was to drive up engagement on lemmy but I don't think that is an issue now. If this is just philanthropy, I think it is very kind of you.
