  • It's odd that humans being selfish and wanting more for themselves is an argument for a system where stamping on people to make your share bigger and keeping others down is encouraged rather than trying to dampen those impulses.

Or on the flip side, maybe they seem so much of that philosophical/ethical black hole "Human Nature" in a system where they're encouraged because our current economic mode strongly encourages them, rather than them being immutable fact?

  • A lot of the world would like the US to keep it's hands and armies to itself inside it's borders.

The US withdrawing from the international stage, is probably a good thing, with the exception of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

  • Only lines with voice work for me, even though there are plenty of great unvoiced lines across games. Sorted by game... I think this post certainly puts me of a generation.

    "My emperor! I've failed youuuu!"
"Fox, get this guy off me!"
    "You're good, but I'm BETTER!"
"Never give up, trust your instincts!"
    "IF THIS DOES NOT WORK!"

Honestly one of the most quoteable games ever made.

    "Stay a while and listen."

"My hotel's as clean as an Elven arse!"
    "Whaaaat?!"
    "Tiax shall smite ye."
    "Heya, it's me Imoen."

    "MASSACRE!"
    "Not yet!"
    "hyut hyut hyut"

    "My fists never betray me!"
    "Don't stand behind me."
    "I'm gonna sleep well tonight!"
    "The feeling... It's... coming back!"
    "Good vibrations!"

"Hello brother! [...] I live on in this arm!"
    "Laugh, and grow fat!"
    "What was that just now?"

Love a good ham. We need more of them in video games.

    "I'mma Luigi, number 1."
    "Falcon PUNCH!"

    "You're going the wrong way!"
    "Retired!"

    "You require more vespene gas!"
"All crews operational." / "Battlecruiser operational." ?
    "En'taro Adun executor."
"I do this for Auir, not you!"
    "Your base in under attack."

"So what shall it be? Will you join the Unity or will you die here? Join... DIE! Join... DIE!"

    "Doctor required in inflator room."

"[...] to the last place uncorrupted by Capitalism! SPACE!"

  • I'm too mercurial and indecisive to ever have a definitive favourite anything. So here's three that do well on different metrics:

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
It's one of the strongest first halves of an album ever in my opinion.

    Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Fond memories, and if you've nothing to do for an hour headphones, the two of you and a comfy chair are still a great way to pass it.

Talking Heads - Fear of Music Probably the album I've listened to most. Lot of big tunes here.

  • About 70 hours, at that time in my life it was normal for me to go 24 hours or so without sleep because I was addicted to WoW.

That time I realised I'd hit 30 and decided to see how long I could go without sleep.

At somewhere after 60 hours I began hallucinating and became convinced that there were elephants inside the walls making them deform.
That was the sign I needed to go to sleep, and I slept for almost 20 hours straight.

  • British English has a lot more variance than Yankspeak.

We're more likely to use "help V+ing" than "help INF". An average larger vocabulary, atop different usages. Even with US dominated media eroding our dialects faster than ever there's still a lot of difference out there.

I will need a more specific question to give more response. Are you a non-native English speaker living in the UK?

  • We acknowledge that the game is a work of fiction. Historical fiction, but fiction none-the-less.

If every fifth character is also black, I think there is a point that can be made about verisimilitude and taking liberties; but since we know he really existed and that there has been debate on what he did, having a work of fiction that portrays him as a samurai under Nobunga doesn't seem unreasonable.

To compare, we know that Leonardo Di Vinci didn't hand out guns to people or build functional flying machines - but we know he designed all sorts of stuff ahead of its time, so it kinda fits in a fictional story with him in.

But only one of those seems to draw huge amounts of complaints online... And it's actually the less historically accurate one.

  • Neoliberalism doesn't beat fascism though and that's the point.

Fascism is capitalism's immune system to eliminate dissent and critical ideas.

And then when everyone is united against the fascists who've rounded up the socialists, the students, the ethnic and sexual minorities, Neoliberalism steps back in, wipes the blood off of its hands, and says "wow, wasn't that bad. Let's stick with me from now on".

  • That's a potentially interesting definition.

Dream Daddy, the daddy dating sim isn't a woke game in this context because the conceit of it being an LGBT friendly town with a bunch of single gay dads makes it all make sense.

But a game set in 1300s Japan with a lesbian white protagonist would be woke because that seems incongruous?

  • I read it as these two questions:

    1. Which controversial sentence said over public broadcast media do you disagree with the critiques of?
    2. Which controversial broadcast sentence do you come closest to agreeing with, even if you don't think it true and hate yourself for even contemplating as true

Don't know if I'm right or but that reading makes most sense to me after a couple of passes and some thinking.
