I'm actually diving into Linux and Docker for the first time right now, and the setup you described is exactly what I'm looking to do. But seeing as this is my first time. I was hoping I'd be able to get some confirmation of what my idea is or find faults with my setup.
In terms of hardware I have on-hand, I've got two laptops. One of which is a half-top, meaning it has no screen. The other is my daily driver. Both are running Linux Mint.
The half-top has 1TB of storage and would have Docker installed with Plex/Jellyfin, the *arr suite, and HomeAssistant.
On my daily driver, I would be running Portainer or Heimdall to access everything and make changes within the half-top itself. I would also use this to access any of the media I have stored in the half-top.
I thought about (and still want to) keep a self-hosted music library, but one of the things i look forward to is the New Music playlist that updates every Friday on YTM. I've found so many good songs and artists that way.
I'm calling it now. In.... 5 years AI will be so advanced and readily available that you won't be able to tell a real person from an AI in the digital realm. The biggest problem with that is when it's being used by bad actors. From scammers to presidential candidates to foreign governments. Scammers can already call your mom or dad, use AI to spoof your voice from even a sample of a recording (like a voicemail greeting), and fool them into giving them money. Anything other than in-person conversations can be fake. This can only have negative consequences.
I hate that my only realistic options for presidential candidates are
A) a geriatric wannabe-dictator who wants to dismantle my country and it's laws for selfish gains
B) a geriatric president not only ignoring calls for an investigation into Israel conducting genocide, bit actively providing the country with the weapons to do so
I showed this to my gf some months ago and she loved it. We occasionally say "Long Long Maaaaaaan", whenever we mention something is long. Long.... MaaaaAAAaaan.
Glad you're OK, but definitely get as much as you can from the insurance. Drivers are REQUIRED to pay them hundreds each month for this reason. So make them pay up now that they are needed.
The issue is, the collective is divided, on purpose, by greedy corporations, corrupt politicians, and dishonest talking heads in the media.
The scientific community could yell from the largest pulpits, but as long as we are separated by "my team vs your team" politics, and everything being politicized, we will remain stagnant and doomed. Progress is dead. If not now, soon. Especially as AI becomes smarter and more easily accessible. We won't know what is true or AI-Gen garbage in a couple (and i mean a COUPLE) of years.
I wish, i PRAY this comment is the most incorrect thing i ever post and we somehow turn things around. I try to play my part by voting, turning to renewables in energy and anything i buy, and informing myself and those around me of ways to be better. But individual people divided can only do so much. It will take the collective human effort to get on the right side of this. Because the collective bad actors, the rich elites, are doing what they need to keep us on the wrong side of progress.
When I try [sudo nmtui] it gives me "Command nmtui not found, but can be installed with: [sudo apt install network-manager].
Which circles me back to my original problem where I don't have network connectivity.
