  • No worries, I get it. This shit is terrible, and while its not all Americans, its embarrassing how many of us are for the craziness. I always knew I was surrounded by dumbasses but holy shit, its way worse than I ever expected.

  • No, but they are a popular mainstream company for those who are less tech savvy. The more of these large companies that do this the more linux gamong will grow, developers will see a need to pay attention to making games work natively on linux. You can hate HP and still see this as a good thing.

  • Different industry for me, but we just call this professional development. As long as whatever is being read or studied can be related to improving your value to the company, performance at the job, or even learning to perform another job at the company, its not only allowed but encouraged. This of course comes with the caveat that you still need to get all your work done, which it sounds like you do. If anyone hassled me I would just say "this is part of my professional development" and that would be the end of it. I even enter this stuff in my performance reviews, and at my prior job it was expected to have something (and they would budget for me to take a training or class, typically of my choosing).

  • As I recall the powers combined with shooting was really new to the genre, along with the ways you combine them. Lighting enemies on fire who would run to water to put themselves out, then hitting water with electricity to zap a group was creative stuff. The way big daddies acted like a boss fight you could tackle in a bunch of different ways was significant too. The options there and with many other obstacles gave player agency for how to navigate most non-linear levels that was a real rarity. For instance, those turrets - have you shcoked them and hacked them? What about freezing them and hacking them? Or using hypnosis on enemies to make them fight the turret? But hacking all those turrets makes for a great distraction in a big daddy fight. And breaking the turrets gives you more ammo.

At the time most shooter were "go here shoot this, go there shoot that" and hell, thats still really common. This game really shook it up, even if it drew inspiration from thief and system shock, it did a lot to improve and advance them. Combined with the unique environment, smart story line, and interesting characters there's plenty of reason it sticks in people's memories as an all time classic.

  • So I feel like it should be possible for a popular browser like firefox to obfuscate these finger printing results by reporting and requesting standard readouts. For example, requesting layouts for all common phone resolutions, then filtering on the user end and giving the user their actual layout. If every instance of firefox gave the same bogus info it would camouflage a large number of users. I'm sure this would use a little more processing power and data, but would probably be worth having a privacy toggle for.

I am not a tech pro, I assume I am missing something that prevents the feasibility of this idea.

  • Works great on my main PC. I have some legacy hardware, a 12 year old PC I shoved a gtx970 into, and I cannot seem to get Bazzite running on it. It would run Win10 and most modern titles well enough to let the kiddo play on it, so this is disappointing. Maybe I need a different distro for something so old?

  • It also sucks that when you buy a game to own it often isnt maintained, so upgrading your phone or sometimed even just OS updates will break the game with no fix, no recourse. I got real fucking tired of losing my purchases to that shit.

Notably I played the ever living shit out of xcom enemy unknown and would have kept doing it too if it weren't for this issue.

  • He was saying some agreeable things and got a lot of attention for it at the time. I'm not sure if he was hiding his real opinions back then or if they just got ignored. Ever since he got brain damage he's been acting like a guy with, well, brain damage... It's been obvious for a lot longer than his Mar a lago visit a month ago
