  • This is another point that can be used as an argument against Machiavelli's philosophy. It was well-written, but I'm not sure a prince should trust the advice of a guy his family threw in prison. The Prince might be chock full of intentionally written bad advice for all we know. ...such as always take a side to form allies, rather than Sun Tsu's approach of allowing them to exhaust themselves without interfering.

  • I'm not sure why the downvote. This is a valid point, but it's also their fault when they know other options exist. I can't be blamed for choosing to exit a toxic atmosphere just because nobody else will, even after being told.

  • You're right. I'm one of the ones who got offline from the big social media sites. Honestly, I feel like it's a civic duty and have tried to convince everyone of Fediverse accounts and have failed. I also don't know what's going on in my friend's lives, and I even got off Bluesky due to tracking or some other offense I can't remember. But I can tell you for sure, once the US gov becomes destabilized enough, that data collection from all these years will be abused to the point that all the people in the "I have nothing to hide" club are seriously going to regret being on Facebook and Instagram, etc. This surveillance state is going to be awful when they succeed, and they will.

  • Well, if the penalty for an antitrust violation is a penny for every billion dollars made while screwing mom and pops small businesses and destroying competition, then there might as well be no anti trust laws at all. They just don't work. Why should I care about a fine if it's only 0.001% of what I made while commiting the violations.

  • I'm definitely below average. But I'm not sure education (or college at least) is the best direction to go at this time. It costs too much, and then people still don't make much sometimes. Then there is job security. A mechanic will have a job for the foreseeable future. Coders and office workers are so far beyond fucked that I would not recommend someone pursue a career in an office right now.

  • I'm liberal and really enjoyed reading this comment. It might be one of the best ones I've seen on here. The part about microaggressions was spot on. This makes me wonder why I've never heard this perspective before? I wonder if people say this in mostly conservative forums, and I just don't see it from my personal fish bowl? I've never heard it put quite like this. It's almost as if it would have been useful for this position to be expressed earlier to educate people before all the frustration occurred.
