Don't take this as a hard rule. My instance blocks hexbear and we're a bunch of anarchists, we just saw the inter-instance drama and don't want all that noise. Our memes community is often a target of derision for lemmy.world liberals. We tolerate liberals there but we absolutely don't tolerate right-wingers.

Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds. This is just typical liberal progression.

Also very reactionary of him to be bent out of shape over the whole "biological men competing in women's sports" thing. Wonder what he thinks of the fact he shares that opinion with fascists?

They both seemed to be trying to appeal to undecided "independents" who are actually just lite conservatives. I think Vance performed slightly worse but still benefitted more because he was better able to appeal to that demo and Walz humanized him instead of staying on the attack.

This looks like an AI image at first glance, but on a closer look I can't find any artifacts. Please tell me it's real and AI hasn't finally passed my personal turing test. I've always been able to tell until now...

It's been a long time since unions have gotten a win like this. This represents a major wind change, hence why people are so stoked.

I appreciate that drag took the time to watch the whole video and I think drag is probably right about Jones' cultural background, as it is similar to mine. I only meant to help make drag's life easier if that's something drag was having trouble with, but I respect that drag already understood the friction that drag's neopronoun creates and made an informed choice to use it on lemmy.

Also, nice Steven Universe clip. That's a show that helped me understand people like drag and is why I have the patience to engage with drag despite the very conservative cultural context I live in.

If drag keeps watching the next point he makes is the exact inverse, namely that neopronouns are also harder than many people make them out to be. Specifically when he talks about the processing cost that is incurred by using even standard/traditional pronouns in certain ways. The parts of the video I thought would be most helpful are in his conclusion, so I do recommend watching to the end.

I noticed that too when I first came across the video, but after becoming more familiar with this person's content I saw that they lean progressive/inclusive and the title is like that probably just for the sake of clickbait or because they're coming from a more centrist/liberal perspective and aren't as familiar with leftist terminology.

I still think their perspective as a linguist is worth hearing.

For most people what's familiar is easier to remember than what's simpler. Personally I find drag's comments difficult to parse. I'll respect drag's wishes regarding how drag wants to be referred to, but I expect drag's going to have a lot of friction even with very tolerant and accepting people if drag insists on that pronoun choice.

This video might be helpful for drag. I know the title is a bit clickbaity but I promise the person in the video is also tolerant and accepting.

Edit: I went through and replaced all instances of you/your with drag. I think this is illustrative of the problem with drag's approach. If everyone has to expend great effort simply to interact with drag in a respectful manner then that will lead to people becoming frustrated with drag. While drag's identity is entirely drag's business and no one else's, drag's insistence on a difficult/unfamiliar pronoun is a choice, and drag could make drag's life easier by loosening up.

If you've had bad experiences with anarchists before I'm sorry, but in my experience anarchists have been much kinder and more welcoming than marxist-leninists, especially in person. Characterizing anarchists as the angsty atheists of the political world is a bit hurtful, but I can see where you're coming from. In the same way atheists sometimes lash out against religious folks, anarchists sometimes lash out against marxist-leninists because of bad experiences in the past. A lot of anarchists I know went through a similar political development where they started being curious about socialism and were met with pretty harsh responses to questions about the more authoritarian aspects of marxism-leninism.

If you're gonna talk about desegregating bathrooms I think it's important to talk about designing bathrooms for greater privacy as well. Ideally you don't want a bunch of urinals lined up across from the sink / common area with no dividers in a desegregated bathroom. It's a bad idea to just remove the signs on existing public bathroom designs and say anything goes.

Point taken, but although it may not have ended well for the anarchists I believe their involvement in the Russian revolution was for the better since it could easily have gone in a much worse direction without them. Anarchists are always putting themselves in harm's way to make this world a better place.

I appreciate that you don't, I even have you tagged as "a polite marxist" so I must have had a positive interaction with you before, but many MLs I've debated before have downplayed anarchist contributions to the Russian revolution. I can understand how you might not encounter that very often since you're not putting yourself out there as an anarchist.

I'll admit my perspective may be skewed because I spend a good amount of time debating marxist-leninists, but I really don't like arguing semantics unless it's important to the discussion at large. For that reason I'll often avoid using words in a way that will start semantics arguments that derail the discussion.

It's also why I typically avoid calling people I'm currently debating tankies, because I think that makes them defensive and is bad for outreach. Maybe I'm wasting my time trying to change people's minds, but if that's the case then people who argue aggressively are definitely wasting their time.

I'm an anarchist and I agree with what you're trying to say, but marxist-leninists are going to jump all over you with semantics arguments because of your unorthodox use of the word socialist.

Edit: I should mention you would be welcome in slrpnk communities. We're primarily anarchist and have hexbear blocked for the aforementioned brigading, but we are welcoming to everyone so long as they behave themselves.

It is certainly not without historical precedent. Anarchists were quite heavily involved with the Russian revolution for example, although many historical-revisionist marxist-leninists would prefer to downplay that.

If you believe this to be true then you don't understand what socialism actually is. You seem to be of the mind that any publicly funded service or welfare is socialist, and I don't blame you for thinking this since it is what the mainstream American political discourse would have you believe.

In short, nine times out of ten, a socialist has absolutely no fucking idea what they’re talking about, but just parroting smug bullshit that they think makes them look edgy and educated.

When you say this immediately after demonstrating that you actually have no idea what you're talking about it's a pretty bad look. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
