no, we are complaining about people talking about Reddit (including you) because we don't care about whatever reddit does and all the Reddit talk gets old fast.

I don't think debian is good for first time users because:

• the downloads page 🗿
• sudo isn't setup out of the box
• most guides refer to ubuntu 20.04/22.04

imagine being able to talk about how Reddit is down on reddit, the fediverse is literally black magic

i love this theme, the thin colours are beautiful

tbh I like mint, but for people that want to learn linux I think ubuntu is better.

There's more people using it, so you get better support, and there's other flavpurs available so things like kde and xfce are supported well right out the box

I don't recommend wsl because it bodges the worst part of windows (windows terminal) onto linux. Also, it's much nicer to learn in a vm where you are learning actual linux, instead of MS' interpretation of linux.

pros:

• old
• extremely cheap
• usable performance, can be upgraded to average performance
• libreboot compatible
• very compatible with Linux
• great keyboard (if you mod it with a t420 keyboard)
• trackpoint (controversial)
• hot swappable batteries
• repairable
• display can be upgraded to IPS if you manage to find a converter board

cons:

• old
• bad battery life (if you keep the stock one)
• TN panel
• not blazing fast (more than enough for the tasks you mentioned though)

i would recommend the 13 but not 16, it literally hasn't been released yet and there's no reviews to base opinions off of.

I have a mk3s+ and it's so good, definitely more capable than I need
