  • I cope with the US falling further by not living in the US, unfortunately I'm just privileged like that, sorry.

I have a few friends over there, and the state of things absolutely breaks my heart.

  • I knew, if anyone else, I'd find you in here hahaha

  • LAST WAVE ROLLING BY FINAL WAVE DON'T ASK WHHHHHHHYYYYY

  • Sorry, I did shower maths and that's always a bad idea. Ignore that whole thing. What I was thinking made sense in one particular way, but not in the way I had intended, so it's completely meaningless.

On the criteria, the absolute maximum implies having a criteria and I just chose the assumption that essentially infinite money would give you the best chance of having "the best possible life." I was just aiming for something order of magnitude so had to choose something arbitrarily.

If you can even define the best possible life in a meaningful way, then I'd say it's absolutely 0% chance because to me, a single day of winter ruins it.

  • Edit: The below is all wrong, I'm good at abstract maths and really shit at numbers, forgive me.

I think you missed me saying "compared to a single human life." Sure, there's no way literally everyone will get "the best possible life" or something, but a single person has very roughly 5×109×1010÷102 is 5×1017 attempts assuming a 100 year life span.

And you only have to get it once, ultimately the probability depends on whatever the criteria here is, which frankly I don't know, assuming it just means "is a billionaire" that's around a 2×10-7 chance each time, assuming 2000 ish billionaires in a 1010 population.

I tried plugging this into a binomial calculator but it couldn't process it, but regardless that's going to be some really good chances.

  • There are 8 billion peope alive right now, we've got 5 billion years until the sun dies. Compared to the length of a single human life, that might as well be an infinite number of tries.

  • I had a fossil before I bought my Samsung, and it was a god awful mess. Barely functional, slow and honestly kind of ugly.

Still, a shame to lose more competitors.

  • Merry Christmas!

More Konsi is exactly what I needed

  • Yeah slightly annoying that, the default YouTube app should be able to cast to smart tube and you still won't have ads though. Vanced used to be able to cast to it, before it was killed and revived.

I just don't cast to it and use the remote.

  • Oh cool, that's actually really useful to know. Thanks!

  • Reading about the right to die movement is interesting, I think there's some expectation that it leads to more people killing themselves, when in reality it often just provides people comfort. People will obtain the drugs, and just leave them on their shelves until they die of something else.

    People just want the option.

  • I'm probably a bit more extreme in my views, but I really agree with Philip Nitschke. Literally everyone should have the option at any time, of course we need to have excellent mental healthcare to prevent unnecessary deaths, but it should be your right to die peacefully if you feel like it.

I don't expect people to really agree with me, but IMO it's just a part of having bodily autonomy. Having access to palative care is also just as much of a right, if that's the option you want.

  • You can even add android to any tv with a chromecast with google tv, it's a much nicer OS and runs faster than a lot of smart tv OSs

  • I think you could argue that any gun incident isn't the result of a "systemic gun control problem," gun control just prevents things. It's a little confusing to say, but a lack of gun control isn't a root cause of gun problems, it's just a solution to them (and an objectively good one imo).

While I understand your point, and think it's fair, I'd add that a part of gun control is the proper education of gun owners such that they have the thought patterns necessary to consider these sorts of possibilities, and to take action to prevent them. It's a big part of the system here, obtaining a gun licence involves training that fundamentally alters your view of responsible gun use.

That said, I'm not going to pretend that gun control would have prevented this, but it should reduce its likelihood.

  • Isn't it?

Where I live, this would be impossible because you wouldn't be allowed to shoot guns somewhere kids can ride through. That's gun control, and it includes air guns.

  • Yep, I'm using one right now. Upvotes for everyone!
