  • It's easy to overlook because of the graphics, but Caves of Qud is a really interesting game that fits your criteria.

It's hard to explain just what it really is or what makes it great, but it has a good mixture of generated and written content that keeps it interesting.

  • The combat far and away is the weakest portion of TotK, as it was in BotW. They did nothing to make it less tedious. The enemies are damage sponges and weapons are brittle toothpicks.

I think long term I will think back with more fondness to the much shorter open world game without combat called Sable. That game is worth playing if you're feeling burnout and want a shorter, completable experience.

  • As mentioned by @Blyfh, 3Blue 1Brown is great.

I also came across this channel by Freya Holmér recently that does more Long Lecture videos on math for video game programmers. I found the the one on splines to be quite enlightening (as I had recently been doing a lot of spline stuff and struggling with third party packages).

  • I eventually found a red dragon keyboard that I'm fairly happy with. I bought some custom key caps because the ones that it came with were Ugly.

It has a volume scroll wheel thing that's pretty cool. Some macro programming stuff that idk what anyone really needs.

  • It looks pretty cool, but why is it missing a numpad? That's kind of a big deal, even for people who just want to play games.

    E. g. Caves of Qud is designed to move with num keys. And playing a fighting game on keyboard is way better with them too.

  • I can still have fun with open world games, but I think I appreciate smaller ones more.

Long term I'm going to have much better memories of the 30 hours I put into Sable than I am the 200 or whatever it is of TotK.

Seriously, people should try sable. It's like a toned down botw in the desert without combat. Such a super chill game with an interesting world.

  • I have sort of an inverted souls hot take. My least favorite part is the souls games are boss fights, and eldin rings open world made the game's exploration and non boss progression too easy.

  • As a related note, if your computer isn't on a surge protector you should get one. They're pretty cheap and will protect your computer from power problems.

If you do a lot of work with yours, you should consider a battery backup one. That would give you time to save any work and properly shut down your pc if the power goes out.
