  • He ain't the what any sane person would like, but in a crowded market of shitty politicians to choose from, he could be far worse - as many believe (myself included) we're about to find out.

Regardless, 1,500 people is a LOT to review the backgrounds of - especially with the time he has left. I don't think we should be surprised a few bad apples made it through the review process, and I'd rather risk that than those who actually were deserving of it not get theirs as well.

TL;DR: I don't think an understandably rushed process makes him any more of an imperfect human being than he already was. I'm not happy with some decisions he's made, but on the whole he's been no worse than the average.

  • There a significant difference between having a perspective on the bigger picture versus "defending" one aspect of it. The person you're attacking stated they weren't defending Biden because it's obviously wrong, but they were pointing out that in the larger scheme of things it's comparatively SOP or even small peanuts compared to other similar wrongs committed by other people in the same position.

I'm quite disgusted with the Biden administration's handling of Netanyahu myself, but that doesn't mean the answer is to replace it with someone with an even worse human rights track record.

  • I don't disagree, but there were 1,500 people on that list, and everyone's acting like Biden himself personally reviewed every one of them. It's more likely to me that someone on his staff fucked up - or more likely was paid to sneak one in - than the idea that he himself added said judge knowingly.

  • I'm aware it's not a protected class - that was the point of my initial comment. But your rebuttal implied "hate crimes" were defined as those based upon properties of a person they had no control over - with a major caveat for religion as well. My point was if you can include something a person chooses to believe as an additional exception, then that opens up an extremely wide swath of possible exceptions.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not arguing against the inclusion of religion, just saying that the inclusion can be used to crowbar in any number of other "classes" to be protected as well simply because they're based upon beliefs.

  • Methinks you have too much faith in those wielding the power to demand this. Examples abound of assholes - anyone from forum mods to police officers - abusing their power against those they look down upon. Yeah, it often comes back on them eventually, but not always, and in the meantime the lives of those they target can be made a living hell if they so choose.

  • It's that religion exception that belies the idea that it's solely about qualities of a person that they have no control over. Beliefs are beliefs, regardless if they're related to religion or capitalism.

  • "Questionable activity" is an easily abused term for power-tripping assholes. Especially with right-wing politics becoming so prevalent world-wide, it's easy (for example) to imagine a scenario where a group of LGBTQ+ types are targeted for harassment - being forced to choose between losing their safe haven or outing themselves & putting themselves at risk of far worse.

  • Thing is Discord will have no problems getting them to do it. By the time any legal proceedings against it work their way through the legal system, the damage will long since have been done. Discord will have made the money from the data they collected, the AI models will be done, and the need for more pictures will be non-existent.

  • He would have had to retire YEARS ago to have had any hope of Biden successfully appointing a replacement. Between the complete Congressional disfunction of Republicans stalling anything and everything Biden could possibly have counted as a "win," and the bullshit delay Mitch McConnell managed to pull to refuse seating Obama's SC pick NINE MONTHS before Trump was elected the first time - then rushing through Trump's pick a mere TWO WEEKS prior to the following election in order to stack the SC - there was NO WAY to guarantee Biden would get a good person in that seat.

  • They're Republicans. They'll twist anything in their minds to be a "win" as long as it pisses Democrats off - that's all they care about anymore. At least until the shit hits their own personal fan, by which time it's too late.

  • I've tried watching it at least 3x now - it's just such a slow build that by somewhere around ep 4-5 I stop watching & have to start over again when going back months later. It was interesting, but boring at the same time.
