Could you maybe still go back and find those links? I use FF for well over 10 years now. And I would say, the amount of websites that do not work, are less than one a year. The only reason are really bleeding edge css filter or MediaDevice instantiations (Webcam, etc.). Video, JS, and HTML is nearly Browser agnostic by this time. I would love to see those non working firefox websites everybody always talks about.

How is this image still so clean and not riddled with compression marks? I had this excact cartoon as a printout on the side of my tower in 2003. I had thought that this only can still exists as a copy of a copy of a copy. But it looks like it was scanned copied from the source.

Does lemmy already support blocking user like that?

I have a photo gallery that is a mess to scroll and find anything. I would like to see a new approach to solving this problem (if possible at all).

Why would you put yourself into an obvious dead end street? People already have problems leaving whatsapp for better messengers. People have a hard time quitting their amazon-addiction, even though there are many alternatives out there. Imagine you put all your eggs in one basket (messenger, shopping, payment, etc.) and lock down everything in one app. This might work for autocratic regimes, that push this idea of an app, as it makes it easier to control everything, but in the western world we like to be individualistic people who like to choose for themself, stand our or diverge from traditions.

Currently in the west, there are multiple shops you can go to. If you happen to have a bad experience (product not at all like the picture, quality, etc.) you can give the app and the shop a bad review and never come back and try one of the others apps. If you have a bad experience inside a Everything App, where also is your communication with friends and the payment... how do you punish the app? No go to the shopping Tab anymore? Review a bad Tab on the appstore? If you leave all the tasks (shopping, communication, payment, etc.) separated in different Apps, you as a user keep more control. You can switch payments without affecting your communication. Imagine getting banned from paypal, whatsapp and amazon at the same time, because the TOS of this everything app. If you are not living in a autocratic state, you can choose (and should choose) and vote with your experience on what service is good and what service needs to go. If you live in an autocratic state, you might possibly can not choose from too much options, as your autocratic regime is trying to push this single apps, that they can control, into every sphere of your life. And if you do use something else, the autocratic state will find ways to make this a reason to have a closer look at you. Don't stand out. Do not diverge from the rest of the citizens. Or else you get the treatment. - I see how Elmo wants this tool on his belt.

The Everything App stand diametrical against the individualistic person belief and an open market. If it were such a great thing, people would have done it successfully in the last 15 years of App development in the West. But there is none of these Apps. Because it is not fitting in a democratic state where services are federated across the market and not vertically implemented in a single app. Its why we have homescreens where multiple apps can coexist next to each other. Is the best homescreen, a single page, with a single app, where when you go inside, then only the variety of possibilities opens up (calendar, calculator, messenger, shopping, etc.) or is this variety of possibilities not already happening exactly there: On the homescreen, in seperated apps.

Do you know why it is so badly reviewed? 4.3 is not that high. I skimmed the reviews and saw some people say it only works 30% of the time and another said it "does not work in FF but in Brave" (so relatively sure its just a astroturfing comment). I see they have a github, so I could go the way of reading the JS code and package it myself into a extension somehow that never updates, but that is easier said than done.

I really wish there were more ways to trust extensions. There are so many shady extensions who update in the background and insert malicious code on a later state when they gained track, that it is really hard for me to trust any of them. Eespecially when those Extension ask for nothing less than all my data on all my visited websites. For this reason I really would like to see this implemented natively in FF and not via an extension. Extensions are good for edge cases. The GDPR consent request is not an edge case. It is something everyone has to click several times a day. This is screaming for a permanent solution.

I wish I could toggle a switch natively in firefox (without a fishy extension) to set a flag, that sites have to respect/follow. Cookie banner are only the frontend result of something that could be implemented in software. In the same way as the EU can make everyone follow these rules or get fined, they could extend the rules to acknowledge my set flag automatically in the browser or get fined. Maybe in the future… I can’t believe my children will still have to click deny on every website in the year 2030.

This should be a reminder for all the remaining subreddits: Try to organize an alternative before Reddit brings down their ban hammer. Now that the sub is gone, how do you let the old users know where you gonna meet? Best is to have right now an active talk about a federated alternative where you can go to when spez is killing off your favorite subs. The Subs who do not have this talk, will only survive as long as reddit allows it. Save your community! Plan ahead or make the move today!

I liked the very detailed day-by-day turns in the first part as well as the epic sea-fights in the second part. Also the small biography-slides with detailed vitaes of military personal gave a good idea in what time people lived and where they were going. Combined with an endless stream of original photos and drawings of the fights, it was a very dense documentation and gave a good image about war, russia, japan and the though-process of early 20th century military tactics.

I think (if it is not a disorder) attention span can be trained. It takes discipline and a true interest into a topic other than just a vague excitement. If you are able to state what topics you are interested in for yourself, you might be able to concentrate on 10-30 Minutes of the same topic. People who are really into The Kardashians are able to watch a whole 50 Minute episode of them. So it is not the problem of concentration for them, it is more that they need something put in front of them for that they can feel a passion or enthusiasm they deeply care about - even it is just The Kardashians. Here is the thing: People have no problem browsing 2h+ of tiktok, but can not concentrate on 10x 20min video? I think if you have a real interest in something you can get through longer videos. Do you look for thing you really care about or do you actively looking for a distraction when you browse tiktok? It is not a bad thing to use it that way. After a long day of work, it can relax your brain browsing real shallow, short clips. But daily, in high doses... then I think it is maybe another reason people do it (escapism, etc.)

But the Videos are still only 1 Minute long. I find them a disgrace for my attention span. Before shorts/tiktok people were already arguing how deep a video of 10 Minute really can be and might be giving only a shallow idea of a topic. Going even further down to 1 Minute per topic is too much (less) for me. I prefer videos 20 Minutes+. Mostly 45-60 Minutes hit a decent spot for me to feel like I learned something about a topic. A couple of days ago I watched a 2-parts video of 6h and 5h (over several days) about the Russo-Japanese war. And even that was skimming over a lot of topics (obviously) but afterwards I felt like I understood something. I dont know how a 1 Minute short can transport anything other than just "a feeling of knowledge" - at this point it is basically just entertainment. I already felt 10 Minutes was snack-infotainment short. 1 Minute clips leave me behind like eating candy for dinner: Very unsatisfied. And maybe that is the reason people then click the next tiktok/short, because they actually do not feel satisfied by such a short clip and have the feeling for wanting more. And they satisfy this "more" by switching to another 1-Minute video. Again getting the feeling of more, yet getting less in the end of the day.

It will sure break in a couple of month again. It did 8 Month ago and I am sure YT will change the code again at some point.

I do not trust having to many FF Extensions installed from some rando from the Internet, so I like this solution better.

You follow the people that share the same interests than you. What are you interested in? What do you expect people suggest you? It is totally depended on what you have for hobbies or the topics you are interested in. If I tell you to follow a Football-Player, a local politician or a niche PCB Designer, what would that give you? Find out what things you are interested in and then find the people connected to those interests.
