General Motors Co. booked $9.9 billion in net income last year, down from 2021's $10 billion despite chronic supply chain woes, rising interest rates and a slowing economy.

GM's comparatively strong financial performance enabled the Detroit automaker to deliver profit-sharing bonuses of $12,750 to approximately 42,300 hourly employees (total number of employees in 2022 was 167,000) - GM's highest such profit-sharing payout. The bonuses total $500 million for the year, the company said.

When im desperate for information and all I'm getting are ai generated article results, I will still resort to appending to reddit to my Google searches but otherwise I've deleted everything on reddit and keep up with major current events and bad memes here on lemmy. It really could be a better experience but it's better than... well... endorsing reddits decisions.

I was wondering if it was possible to write a script to scrape reddit posts, and then ask chatgpt to say the same thing slightly differently and output the post/comments in a csv format and then use that to create a lemmy posting bot. Idk if chatgpt has api access like that though, and what agreements would prohibit this.

My subscribed feed has top posts from days ago. Specific communities like virtual reality or mountain biking or classical guitar are basically empty.

That said I don't use reddit and consider my boutique feed a sacrifice to the internet gods until lemmy has more population.

I was curious about this kind of idea. Isn't all reddit content owned by reddit, and isnt pasting their intellectual property onto a different platform not really super legal? (I fully support it)

Being able to extract all of the question/answer threads on reddit to boost the value of lemmy from a search index perspective seemed too good to be true as a solution.

Isn't the usefulness of ventures rewarded or not by the efficient market? I really like VR. An emerging market like that is bound to have some design dead ends and wasted money.

You are right that mental pain is an exaggeration, but it's the accumulation of insufferable interactions that make you hate retail. When 25% of people expect you to act for them, you feel like a puppet. YES the business demands this, but the customer invokes it. So don't invoke it and let workers sigh relief when you decide not to try to "test" their company response. Is this really that complicated?

They must start the topic to have the job. They likely already know. They likely don't care. Your game forces them to pretend to care. You are holding them hostage because their genuine reaction would be to ignore you but they can't do that while working. You are causing them mental pain. You are forcing them to be something they aren't until you leave.

As if the cashier is trying to engage in a discussion of class. As if they aren't paid to ask. Just say no and feel secure with your own reasons without having to justify yourself. It's like when I worked at ace hardware in high school and every boomer would need to tell me how dumb it is to phase out incandescent light bulbs. Trying to preach to someone about your convictions against their will is so pointless and annoying.

Yeah it's hard to replace reddit and lemmy is by far the best. Just needs time to mature.

This is why retail sucks. Just pay for your stuff.
