  • My understanding is that tax write-offs are deducted from the revenue, as in profit is revenue - expenses - write-offs, with different things being written of over different periods of time. So, let's say vehicles are written off over 8 years, and I buy a truck for 40,000$, I can deduct 5,000$ each year from my revenue, meaning my taxable profits are 5,000$ less each year.

  • I do like that moderation log feature on at least one lemmy instance. It allows you to see what the mods are doing and helps avoid communities with bad moderators. Or at least it would if you could search by community.

  • As much as the ESRB fucking sucks ass and can go burn, at least it isn’t a government agency and has to at least play nice enough with the industry and consumers in general.

I don't think any industry can really be trusted to self-regulate in the long term.

  • The last triple A game I bought at launch was 'Watchdogs Legion', to comemorate my new PC. I figured I just build a new computer, so why not celebrate by buying an expensive game. It was a stupid impulse buy.

  • I feel that 'metaverse' and 'cyberspace' are related concepts, in that they exist to give authors a way to portray digital processes and events in a way familiar to the average viewer. And that's why there's not been a legit project. Because in the real world, the metaverse lacks a reason to exist. Want to interact with people across the world? There's already tools for that (VRChat, Zoom). Want to play a game? Why not make the game independent of the metaverse?

  • You know, the best way to get a Republican to support gun control is to create a left-wing, ideally non-white, armed paramilitary group. E.g. The Black Panthers led to Reagan passing laws banning assault rifle ownership. I don't actually know whether the Black Panthers were left wing, so I guess the 'non-white' point is more important. But yeah, these people are hypocrites.
