  • I completely understand. Watching his show made me feel so powerless, frustrated, and angry that I took a pretty long break. That particular episode was the first one I had watched in a long time. I didn't see the chocolate episode so I don't know what you're talking about actually.

  • Why the hell aren't these chemical railcars designed to withstand a derailment?

  • Well yeah I'm saying would it still be called rustling in the east or would it only be called rustling in the west, like Oklahoma.

  • So what have you been hearing? Are people supportive? In denial? Angry?

  • I'm hoping that it's just a department trying to get rid of one of those bad apples.

  • Would it still be rustling on the east coast or just in the west?

  • I love Jasper. One of my favorite Simpsons characters.

  • "Comfort women" is an internationally recognized way of clearly referring to these exact women. It is definitely euphemistic but it uses the least amount of words to express the concept, which is the goal of a headline.

I try to post interesting articles here on lemmy and the only constant comment I get is how bad the headlines are. Headline writing is largely garbage unfortunately. As long as the article is accurate then sometimes that's all you're going to get.

  • Is this case being talked about in Japan? Has japanese news media reported on it at all?

  • God that's terrifying. I can't imagine being that child. Reading stuff like that literally sends shivers down my spine.

  • If you're just a kid on the Internet I can see how you might find the whole sovereign citizen concept as some kind of real life cheat code and fall for it. Adults should have enough life experiences to understand that this is just bullcrap though. I've never met a sovereign citizen in real life but I would love to meet one and have a conversation. I don't think I could change his or her mind but I'd love to pick it.

  • S Korea could freeze Japanese assets. S Korea and Japan are both members of the international criminal court so maybe that could be a factor. I'm honestly just guessing though. It could end up being a symbolic victory for these women though.

  • States are different. I have a loved one who lives in a similar situation. A one bedroom apartment with only retired people but the rent is capped at ⅓ monthly income (savings don't count). We can treat our elderly with dignity. We just have to be willing to pay for it and vote for politicians who are willing to enact it. Children, elderly, people with special needs, etc. it frustrates me to no end how we'll just throw them aside so our taxes can be just a little bit lower.

  • If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.

  • You're getting downvoted and while Internet points are silly I personally don't think you're acting inflammatory or maliciously. I think we agree on mostly everything here. I find it frustrating when people use downvotes to mean "I disagree with you."

  • Well the foundation is the presumption of innocence. You're allowed to be suspicious if you want. Webster's defines suspicion as "the act or an instance of suspecting something wrong without proof or on slight evidence : MISTRUST" The without proof part is what bothers me.

  • Different people respond differently to stress and just because someone acts differently than you think you might doesn't mean that they're automatically guilty or innocent. In my opinion only evidence can prove if someone did something or not. After all, we weren't there so we can't know. Christopher Jefferies was arrested for murder but released and his vilification was described as "a form of psychological torture" and "as in some Kafkaesque nightmare" article. Jay Cheshire killed himself in 2015 after being falsely accused of rape by a girl article. I'm not interested in the pitchforks and torches mentality. I'll wait until there's evidence and I'll make my decision then.
