  • With the news cycles being 24/7 these days, there's no reason they can't talk about both. Blame them for being shit.

  • Yes, but as a custom notification channel on the IT OPs channel. That's where we send system alerts. Outage notifications, script notices, etc...

  • You know what that equates to?

At COB on a random friday...

The commander walks out to the front of the formation. The unit comes to attention. First SGT hands over control to the commander and walks to the rear of the formation

Commander: <cover formalities of shit that they decide is important enough to cover for the week, Motorpool shit, upcoming range days/training/missions, whatever>... Now that we got that out of the way, President Trump is coming to Ft Bragg for an event. Battalion says we have 15 slots to the event. Those who are interested in going, come see me in my office after formation or talk to your platoon Sergeant. For everyone else... Go home, don't beat your kids, wife, car, or each other. For the new guy that showed up... Get a battle buddy. I'm heading out to the officers lounge. If you see me at the bar this weekend... leave me the fuck alone. Dismissed.

    Commander walks away

Only people who want to go will sign up for it. And most of those people will go because it's during duty hours and they don't want to get picked for some random other duty (like CQ, or cutting lawns). And if they go and end up making their commander look like shit, they'll be reprimanded.

Nothing about this was "vetting". I've seen this type of shit dozens of times, even while deployed in Afghanistan (Who wants to go see this random senator who's coming out here on a guided tour to make themselves feel better!).

Now here's the kicker... The article COULD be correct. I COULD be wrong. But since they fucked up and lied about one thing that I know for a fact happens for a completely different reason, I MUST discount the other things they say because I know that it's more likely to have happened the way I've seen it happen before.

And lastly, I REALLY believe my concept is what happened... Simply because in the military.com article...

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out,"

Meaning that if someone got voluntold to show up (a unit didn't get enough volunteers but the commander sent the full amount regardless), get those soldiers swapped out with standbys from units that had more people who wanted to go than the allotted slots for the unit (usually from battalion [HHC/HHB (Arty!)] itself).

It's funny because writing this paints me as someone who backs Trump. I do not agree at all that the speech should have happened on a post at all based on what I've heard about it (I haven't watched it yet). Post commander should have shut that shit down, or minimized the event as much as possible. But the claims at the face, from what I've seen are just absurd. They fly in the face of my lived experience for 7 years, the dozens of events that I marched in. The information that I have first hand knowledge of that happened the majority under Obama... literally the same shit was happening then. Claiming that now it's a problem because it's Orange man... leads me to outright throw away these stories as garbage. You're losing a population of voters who know that this shit is a norm in that specific circle, as stupid as it may be or as much as you don't understand it happening.

  • This is your strongman, and even if tradition to select the crowd, it outlines the absurdity of Americans behaviour and hypocrisy.

... I've marched with other services as well. It's not just "Americans" that do this. Now granted, 95% of my experience would be the American side of this.

You can have your opinion on how it's stupid. I won't disagree there. I never understood or cared myself. But to say that this is something special JUST for Trump is a delusion in of itself. This is a common occurrence, Trump be damned.

  • 'No Fat Soldiers'

Once again... Another post/article from somebody who's never been in service. EVERY parade, march, etc... ANY official function where basically any colonel or above were going to be present. We were ALWAYS screened and sorted for visual aesthetics. If we needed more bodies than was "perfectly" available, the ones who aren't "best" looking would be buried in the middle to be less visible. The really tall dudes (the 6'4 dude sticks out in a small sea of 5'11), and short people were almost always out first. Those who didn't meet height and weight requirements (BMI/whatever you want to call it) were almost always certainly out. Commanders (captains) would do this without any orders to do it. It's to make the unit look cohesive and uniform.

This is literally normal for any high visibility event.

I feel like I keep finding these posts about military stuff an virtually nobody knows what they're talking about on here... It's disappointing.

  • That's not up to the Joe.

And no they haven't. They're under northcom. Northcoms primary duty/role is to respond to these events. My unit was trained for a rotation under for this exact duty back in 2010.

  • Nothing illegal about sitting around and doing nothing... or riot defense against a building though... Which is the only things I've seen thus far.

  • They don’t have enough people to get to us all unless we are compliant.

This is incorrect. They absolutely have enough people to monitor the feeds for detected people and collect people up individually after the fact, which is exactly what the speakers/statements are alluding to.

This is why "AI" bullshit is bullshit. This is why cameras on literally every traffic light is bad. This is what a lot of people have been screaming since 9/11. With the TSA and other organizations collecting information all willy nilly.

  • Top xx% may get "with distinction". I held a 4.13 (capped at 4.0). I went on to teach at the institution for a few years after graduating as well. So I've spent a significant amount of time in academia.

But because of the higher standard for grad schools, typically requiring a 3.0+ to stay active (rather than the typical undergrad 2.0), latin honors dont make sense if the whole grad year is basically getting them. So they're not commonly issued.

  • graduated Summa Cum Laude in [...] her Master’s degrees

Graduate programs generally do not do Latin honors...

  • Nothing special about it. It's just an aggregate/repack of the smaller torrents that broke them out by letter groupings. They're the same exact files otherwise.

  • There's been a lot of posts that say "azaz" or "aazaz" or some other variant lately. I ignore them all at this point... but I'm surprised that admins haven't started banning them from their instances on sight... This post has been up way too long. Mods are clearly sleeping.

Yes... it's only been 1.1 months since they've first issued fines under the DMA... What a long and litigated history! Definitely shows what you claim it does over it checks notes 2 issued fines ever.

Funny part is, DMA has been law since MAY 2023. So in 2 years... it issued 2 fines ever... less than 2 months ago.

But right! NO COMPANY EVER DARES IGNORE IT!

    LMFAO. Right.

    https://www.theverge.com/news/627522/apple-meta-eu-dma-antitrust-fines

The Financial Times reported in January that the EU was planning to soften its regulatory practices around Big Tech following an increase in pressure from the US, with the new EU Commission that took office in December reportedly being more focused on enforcing compliance than issuing hefty fines.

Weird... Doesn't sound like the commission even wants to issue fines at all!

  • I don’t think you understand the fact that the DMA allows fines of up to 20% of a company’s global total turnover for repeated infractions.

And how many times has that happened?

None? Great, we're on the same page now.

  • The only mechanism of "enforcement" that the EU is levying is fees/fines. M$ can absorb a large amount of fees/fines pretty readily if it means complete market capture.

There is no "force" here when it's just the "cost of doing business".

The EU isn't raiding M$'s headquarters and capturing board members/C-suites. There is no "force".

  • I mean they kind of are? It's not like M$ couldn't just pay the fines and keep things as is.

  • There’s also Wix for very simple page builds.

Your in self hosting community... You can't build in Wix and selfhost. Wix relies on their infrastructure always being present.

  • Just so happens that I'm the god of gluttony.

  • I currently live in the US... so it's not directly come up for me. But it's something I've been looking into here and there because I am interested in buying property and working in my other country. Part of that is driven by my desire to interact with the majority of my family more.

My understanding is that there are firms that do it. It's the same process as most other taxes though except you can claim a couple other forms and need to declare a few additional items. I tend to do my own taxes now and get by just fine, a couple extra forms I'd likely just hire a firm to do them 1 or 2 times and use that as reference for the future personally. Taxes in general is pretty easy for most people as long as you have a reference/guide and don't do weird stuff IMO.

For renouncement I think you only have to show that you've filed taxes for the past 5 years... and as long as you're not some uber wealthy person there isn't an expat cost (I think it's like 800k on all assets? or something like that). The fee was something like $2k as well. It's not a crazy hard process to my understanding, but I could be missing a part.
