  • I entirely agree, except I don't think it has anything to with maximizing profits for Facebook. If it did, then the logical thing to do is whatever gets the most people on the site the fastest, not do something that instantly alienates a massive amount of people. It does have everything to do with maximizing profits for those in charge of running the Facebook show, though. Then it makes perfect sense to align the company with whatever political regime can promise the most bloody money for the new yacht and underage 'entertainment'.

Also, I genuinely think the Zuck gets off on being a slimy little cunt and is probably really excited right now. Facebook has always been a little too quick to go down the scummy road, even for capitalism.

  • Honestly didn't know Facebook even had a fact-checker system. They are pretty explicit in their mission to sow discord and disinformation, it's basically their whole business model

  • I cant stop seeing the zip-ties as legs

  • I find the blank, abyssal stare of one desperately trying to piece reality back together long enough to hold conversation, sends a pretty clear message

  • I second this. Variety of communities, not generally a creepy or racist shithole, mostly neutral politics and moderation, shit just works

  • Congrats, you captured the exceedingly rare moment wherein a cat has bent quantum physics to their will and is briefly occupying more than one location in space-time simultaneously.

  • I don't use anything Apple, so I can't speak on that, but I have never once had an issue with any other Anker product, and pretty much every accessory I have is Anker. You might try exchanging the charger to see if maybe you just have a defective one.

  • And at worst, they will kill you for perhaps being gay, trans, having a different religion, or otherwise not conforming to 'normal' society

  • Perhaps, but for a lot of people it can be incredibly dangerous or even lethal to be that social target

  • Not contradicting anything you said or trying to make an argument, just thought it would be a cool thing to share and let people learn about.

But if you do want some kind of argument, then I would say that while you are not wrong here, conformity has basically nothing to do with drawing reasonable conclusions and that really isn't it's purpose. Conformity is almost more of a defense mechanism (which can go wrong rather easily, hence this discussion) meant to keep us comfortable and prevent accidentally painting a social target on our own backs. It's when conformity is conflated with logical reasoning that we start to get problems.

  • This is a little concept known as conformity, and it's a pretty big and interesting part of sociology

  • It's our own dumbass fault for making our news particularly exhausting

  • Making stuff up, but how could he!? He is going to be the president the United States. He can't possibly lie or invent 'realities' like a senial old demtia patient who keeps trying to touch people inappropriately and should've been committed to a care facility decades ago.

  • I am being tormented by soup posts, whyyyyy!? This is a conspiracy I tell you . . .

  • Ahh, but that 127 million only accounts for the United States or perhaps a few other nations. There surely are at least a couple other countries in the world that are the 'Santa Visit Roster'

  • That doesn't seem like that many cookies. Assuming an average of three cookies per household, that's only ~100 million houses visted. Santa is either racist or he's being paid off by the elven mafia to exclusively visit certain homes, only logical explanation for the discrepancy in the cookie consumption to global household ratio.

  • Taco Bell sounds pretty damn good rn too

  • I remember when I discovered what astigmatism was when I was hanging out with some friends, complaining about how hard it was to see at night with one of them while our other friends stared at us in mounting horror as we all discovered that light is actually not supposed to be spiky.

  • Stickers placed without care have no meaning. A sticker is a badge of honor. A sticker must earn its right to be placed where it is placed.

  • I forgot about the song for a sec and was sitting here wondering what the hell Santa ever did to you
