  • Musk is intentionally killing twitter confirmed. First he tried to tank its value and retract his buy offer but was forced in to the purchase by the SEC. So now he's just playing the long game by killing it step by step with his own hands.

  • True that many countries may find themselves lacking to the USA. Americans meanwhile don't compare themselves to anybody, completely ignoring all the countries which are leaps and bounds ahead of us in terms of social justice & public welfare.

  • Go outside dude. "America bad" is not based on reddit, there are millions of citizens out there who have real issues with the way our country is run, real activist groups doing protests and trying to spread awareness.

All you have to do is open your mind to be able to see these problems (instead of downplaying issues like mass murder) and listen to the people who feel they've been disadvantaged

  • Why is there a division between sexes in chess? Why is a "chess master" different from a "woman chess master"?

From what I have seen in chess forums, many old-school male chess players think there is a difference in analytical vs emotional mind or something in that vein which is just a thinly veiled version of sexism

  • I have a habit of scrolling during downtime during the day but I don't have an attachment to lemmy specifically. One thing I like about this app is how mundane a lot of the posts seem, it's not overly exciting and doesn't cause tiktok-style dopamine addiction.

All forms of social media could be argued as being addictive to some degree but lemmy IMO is relatively harmless. Though there is something to be said about rage farming, many of the posts seem to be negative or anger-inducing in some way, but it's not bad compared to many other platforms. And of course there is the ability to filter your feed by blocking certain communities but the personalization in that regard isn't as good as reddit was.

  • I don't mean to say all asian people look the same, my statement was overly simple. I can usually tell people of different ethnicities from eachother but it seems chinese people look more similar to other chinese people, japanese people look very similar to eachother, so on. Not suggesting that the entire continent looks the same, and of course there is genetic diversity, but my observation has been that diversity shows less visually among their more homogenous groups/regions

  • Murder is bad, but humans are the problem. And humans being stupid chaotic creatures, it often devolves in to dirty things like killing. You can say all you want about right and wrong but this is a messy situation and this is the solution they have been forced in to using, after trying the peaceful method for years

  • Idk I haven't watched those channels but doesn't that seem pretty paradoxical? Advanced society with relative social equality, harmony in federation, they're all very anti-conservative qualities
