  • Pappy McPoyle: Those were my boys sprung from my loins, fully formed! One of them babies tried to eat me! I ate him first! I ate him first!

  • Oh I didn't realize there was a difference, well I guess I like commentary content!

  • I agree that not all reaction videos are bad. Sometimes the original video is just a video of the thing and as a lay person I need someone with more expertise to provide an analysis of the thing so I can understand it.

One example of the top of my head is "drummer reacts to Danny Carey" where he explains why the piece of music is so difficult but the original video is just Danny Carey performing the song. I dont know enough about drumming to understand the original video so it's nice to have someone break it down for me.

  • I have a similar problem from watching firearm content on YouTube. YouTube just assumes I love right wing media because I'm interested in guns.

  • Employees who have UBI to fall back on aren't forced to accept that starvation wage. UBI gives everyone a small amount of fuck-you money. Employers paying starvation wages would find themselves with a lack of qualified employees because people can afford to quit and look for a better job.

  • Many pipe organs from the mid to late 1900's use similar electro mechanical technology to take the key presses and actuate valves in the organ closet to activate the correct pipe. I'd love to see him do a video on pipe organs, they're amazingly complex!

  • I was wondering why they would care about firing shots into space, but then I realized that it's probably not enough velocity to escape our orbit and would just add to the orbital debris issue.

If the velocity was such that the projectile could exit our orbit, it would probably be less risky.

There's an interesting excerpt from one of the Expanse books about how all the rounds they fire from their space ships are probably going to travel through space for millions of years before they actually hit something.

  • This type of censorship seems like a pretty valid thing to criticize even though it's pretty minor.

  • I agree with you though I don't know much of Muse or Radiohead's discography beyond their hits. I can't think of any Radiohead song that sounds like Knights of Cydonia or Stockholm Syndrome.

  • Metallica is one of the most popular bands of all time and One is a banger regardless of your feelings about Lars.

  • Songs are short, just listen to both back to back. They're both awesome. Also queue up One by Metallica for right after

  • Gun owners have to pipe in whenever there's a legitimate reason for a firearm otherwise the narrative is that we only have them because we love mass shootings and dead children.

  • Bear spray is the first line of defense assuming the wind is at my back or non-existent. The backup plan is 12 rounds of 10mm Buffalo Bore or Underwood handgun ammunition.

The only close encounter I've had with a grizzly (and a moose too) was in Canada where I was not allowed to have my handgun. I made a point to not wander more than maybe 25 feet from my vehicle so I could make a quick getaway if needed. The grizzly came within 100 feet of me on a river bank on the opposite side of the Kluane river in Yukon Territory and the moose wandered up river then floated downriver.

  • I haven't followed either's career particularly closely but I like a lot of stuff from both artists. The Imperial March from Star Wars and the dancing scene from MI:2 "Nyah" are some of my favorite songs from movies.

I don't know much about Zimmer from beyond his Wikipedia page but I did find this quote (from Wikipedia) regarding his stance on crediting the other musicians who help with the collaborative nature of modern production.

Originally I had this idea that it should be possible to create some kind of community around this kind of work, and I think by muddying the titles – not having "you are the composer, you are the arranger, you are the orchestrator" – it just sort of helped us to work more collaboratively. It wasn't that important to me that I had "score by Hans Zimmer" and took sole credit on these things. It's like Gladiator: I gave Lisa Gerrard the co-credit because, even though she didn't write the main theme, her presence and contributions were very influential. She was more than just a soloist, and this is why I have such a problem with specific credits.

Does he say one thing and act another way behind the scenes?

  • This is the way, but you're right about hot water. I did damage a pair by accidentally using water that was too hot.

This method minimizes scratching and it does a great job of removing grease (I sweat a lot) that a microfiber cloth would just spread around.

  • They might even skip songs they don't like. If you don't want me playing Lamb of God why the fuck is it available in the jukebox?

  • Iceland is already a pretty expensive place to visit and it's honestly not that amazing (it's beautiful for sure, but it didn't stand out to me). Everywhere you go you have to pay to park and pay to camp. The food, drink, lodging, and transportation is super expensive already and a major part of their economy is built on tourist dollars. I'm curious to see how much the tax would be and how much of it goes to actually protecting their environment.

  • I honestly have no idea what point you're trying to make here.

  • I disagree on the grounds that it prices out poor people. The 2nd amendment is for everyone and it shouldn't be prohibitively expensive to exercise your right to bear arms.

It's already expensive to train and increasing that cost means more people won't be able to train appropriately. Personally I'd prefer firearms training to be as cheap as possible so that anyone who chooses to own a gun can practice and be safe with it.

  • This is exciting news. Talos Principle really filled that void left by Portal for me.
