  • Around 750e for whole week, bigger pay for weekend and holidays. This is even if nothing happens, and in case I get calls, I clock that time and it is taken out of my 40h/week hours. I also have flexitime so I can sleep late if I get calls at night.

Based in EU and 2 other people doing it regularly and 1 extra, which is way too little. Basically at least one week/month.

I make much better money than I otherwise could get right now, so I tolerate it, but gonna be honest. I fucking hate doing on call. 40/h is already more than I would like to do, and with on call I have one or two weeks a month with no proper free time.

Oh well, it pays the bills for now, but if I got job with no on call but better base salary, I would take it in a heartbeat.

  • I don't have deck just yet, but I plan to get it. I much rather buy it over something like Rog ally, cause I really appreciate it is running linux and how it has contributed to Linux gaming overall.

And, Rog ally is way more expensive, and being able to play triple A games is not important for me, I have my PC for that. I want deck to play my small indie games.

  • Great thread, although I tbh don't even want alternatives for most of them.

    Lemmy, sure.

Discord, would be nice but until I get my friends and servers to move to something else, not gonna work.

Facebook, I don't ever want to use anything like it even if it was open source.

Mastodon, I don't want to use it despite being fedoverse cause it tries to be like Twitter and I hate Twitter.

Pixelfed, I don't really want to use anything like instagram and even if I did, not relevant until people I want to follow use it since I wouldn't post myself.

Tictoc, I would rather scoop of my eyeballs with rusty spoon than use it, no matter if it would be federalized.

Others not mentioned I don't care enough to know how they work. Still, I support the sentiment of making fedoverse alternatives for things, although I personally only need lemmy and discord to get my dopamine fix.

  • Yeah, for some I might be hardcore leftist radical, and generally hold many anticapitalist, anticonsumerism sentiments. However reading opinions of these people, I can't see how world order they are proposing would be any better for anyone, except for those on the top, just like we have now. I also hate the assumption that communist society would be inherently more ecological than capitalist one, or more eqalitarian, like these people seem to think.

Reading pro soviet stuff is also infuriating for me as someone living in Finland, usually shit takes that totally oversimplify history of my country. Same thing with anti NATO stuff, I am not generally too fond of NATO but I am still OK with Finland joining cause, uuum have you notice there is fascist country right next to us that seems to have no problem attacking neighbouring countries, that are not in NATO.

Unfortunately this kind of nuance is impossible to these chronically online people, who just make up shit to justify their agenda. They just think we will have leftist revolution and then everything will be alright, instead of considering for one second how all this would play out in real life.

  • Nobody is going to take us leftist seriously with these mofos being so historically illiterate and apologist to mass murderers. Why do ya'll have to circlejerk same dead men all the time, can't ya'll like develop nuanced critique of current technological capitalist system on ya'll own?

  • I went with best AMD I could get at the time, 7900xtx sapphire nitro. For gaming, it's already really good, I can use raytracing, although not on best settings on some games, but in most cases I can just max out the settings.

Main complaint atm is that self hosting AI is much more annoying than it would be on nvidia. I usually get everything to work eventually, but it always needs that extra level of technical fuckery.

  • For me it was using command line (linux/vim/sql/powershell) at work, for same mundane tasks over and over. Due to that, I started remembering commands so I didn't have to look it up, and was more comfortable trying something I hadn't done before as well.
