  • Mine has been very drawn out, but I had to have the tooth surgically removed first. There is also around 2.5 months wait for each appointment which makes things take longer. I think the minimum you would have after getting a referral is an initial appointment, the actual implant, final checkup with the surgeon, then getting the crown with your dentist, which would be around 6-9 months. I added in the tooth extraction, a bone graft, and a missed appointment due to Covid so it's taken about twice as long as it would have for a straightforward implant. I'll look at doing another tooth next year once this has healed and I my health insurance limits reset.

It's a little bit painful but not too bad. Having stitches in your mouth is also annoying. I've taken the day off after the graft and implant so I can mope around and be sooky, ,but it's not really necessary. The only really awful bit was the actual tooth extraction, which I took a few days off for. Then I followed up with the infected finger and Covid, so all the sickness and injury have blended together, I recommend you don't do that.

  • The implant itself was $3k, that does not include the crown. The initial consultation was partly covered by medicare, so was not too much, and the x-rays and bone graft I had have all been bulk billed. I think the crown should be about $2k or a bit more.

  • My poor credit card is completely maxed out, and once it is paid off tomorrow I have more stuff to go on it. It rarely gets to the limit, but a single month with a dental implant, bond payment and a month's rent in advance on top of the normal spending certainly adds up!

Having my van means I will be able to pick up the queen size bed frame and bedside tables I've decided on, so I'll take that and whatever other odds and ends I can fit in so I can drop off at the new place when I pick up the keys on Friday. Then I have lots of measurements to take so I can plan some furniture layouts and buy a few more things. I wasn't really planning on buying as much stuff as I am, but I've realised a lot of the stuff I have is getting pretty old, and a lot of it was also "temporary" cheap stuff that has hung around too long and isn't really worth moving. Things like the cheap Kmart desk I've been using as a dressing table, which was broken and re-glued during my last move and probably won't survive another!

Edit to clarify: I'm not borrowing to afford my spending, I do have the money in another account, I just use the cards for buyer protection & points. Using credit cards to finance anything outside of a major (probably life threatening) emergency is a Very Bad Thing and will lead you to ruin.

  • Some years ago my dream would have been to have every cm of space under the bed usable for storage, possibly with a bookshelf headboard too. These days I'm trying to be more minimalist, plus I have more room in general, so I'm prioritising a more open design that lets my pets wander freely underneath.

  • Champagne for me please, and a big drink of water for the fire trucks I keep hearing drive past. I'm presuming it's my local MPs chances of keeping his seat going up in flames.

  • I can't say I've ever had mould on my wood furniture. I have had a metal base which was cheaply made and bent after very little use, so I'm a bit wary of metal frames. It was when I was a teenager and money was pretty tight, Mum managed to buy my sister and I new bed frames to replace the tatty second hand wood ones we'd had since we first moved into full beds, and within a year they had both broken and we ended up sleeping on matresses on the floor for a few years.

  • For some totally non-election related discussion: what is your preferred style of bed? I'm seeing a lot of fabric covered bed heads around, and I really don't like that idea from a cleaning/hygiene perspective.

I'm looking at a dark stained wood frame bed, a fairly minimal design with raised legs and no footboard. My current bed is nearly 30 years old, the options have changed considerably since then.

  • I'm settled in with a bowl of pumpkin soup and a cheesymite scroll to await some results. 🤞

  • Happy Birthday!

I have put in towards your present, hopefully enough other people can contribute too and get your wish.

  • 1 sausage for democracy please.

  • They would all be good things. I'm also hopeful that my local member, Michael Sukkar, might lose his seat as well. It was very close last time - it looked like he had lost initially, then it swung back to him as the postal votes were counted. He won on a 0.2% margin, and I saw some recent polling saying he is now predicted to be leading by 0.02%, so it really could go either way.

  • There was one that just doesn't have insurance, and had lots of reviews saying they break things.

As a positive I now have a bunch of quotes that all agree on the rough amount of stuff and likely time taken to move, so I can focus on the cost per hour and any extra charges (like the $500 surcharge for travelling over 30km the expensive place wanted). That place also thought it would take 3 men instead of the 2 everyone else is quoting for, which is why it was so much higher. All the others are between $1500-$2000, the expensive one was estimating $3500.

I'll probably just go with the same removalist I had last time as long as they quote within a reasonable range. It was 19 years ago and the business has been passed on to the original owner's son since then, but I was very happy with them.

  • I've started off with removalist quotes by getting a couple online, hoping for a rough ballpark figure. One was over twice the cost of the other. Accidentally including a trampoline in the list of things I am moving may have had an impact, although the total m3 they estimated was roughly the same. I almost added 35 outdoor umbrellas to the list on the other, due to resting my finger on the touch screen, but fortunately realised before I submitted it.

  • Technically. Mr Woof had a bath yesterday, so I guess it should be Miss Meow's turn. I suspect if I tried it I would end up with many claw marks.

  • All the exciting things I've ordered lately and the first thing to arrive has to be the mop bucket. Still, it is a very nice mop bucket. And it has wheels, so it can roll with me as I move around the room. Plus it's in a nice bright hazard warning yellow with "wet floor" warnings on the side, so Miss Meow and Mr Woof will know to be careful. Although it would probably be more useful if I actually had the mop.

  • That is a lot more bold and eye catching than the Ring camera stickers!

  • Yes, that's what I'm looking at. Then the one subscription and app will cover them all.

  • Security cameras have definitely improved a lot since I last looked at them. Everything used to need hard wiring for power and all the apps were pretty glitchy last time I investigated.

I'm going to get the Ring doorbell, cameras with solar power and gutter mounts for the front and back, plus one in the main area inside. That should cover all the main approaches, and being a new estate most of the theives in the area will be targeting all the empty houses filled with brand new appliances anyway.

  • Slowly working down the moving checklist. Power & gas connection is organised, and mail redirection done. I need to look at insurance, which is a bit of a nuisance as my current policy ends 3 days before the moving date. Removalist is the next major thing to organise, and then lots of lots of address changes.

I looked at NBN yesterday, it looks like it has FTTP installed already. That will be good, as I'm looking at getting a Ring doorbell and some security cameras. Money is just flowing from my accounts like water at the moment!

Countdown: 1 week from key collection. 1 month from final move date.
